Anna University was founded as a unitary university on 4th September, 1978. The late Dr. C.N. Annadurai, a former Tamil Nadu chief minister, is honored by the name of this university. It provides postsecondary education in engineering, technology, architecture, and applied sciences that are pertinent to the requirements of society both now and in the future. In addition to advancing research and sharing the knowledge it generates, it encourages collaboration between the academic and business sectors. The University was established by merging and combining four renowned technical colleges in Madras, today known as Chennai:
- Engineering College (CEG) (Founded in 1794)
- ACT, or Alagappa College of Technology, was founded in 1944.
- MIT, Madras Institute of Technology, was founded in 1949.
- The SAP (School of Architecture and Planning) was founded in 1957.
CUIC:
CUIC serves as a liaison between Anna University and its business associates. In addition to assisting with student placement and internships, CUIC finds technical areas of shared interest and coordinates a range of cooperation initiatives, including the creation of centres of excellence, industry-sponsored student activities like hackathons, the distribution of industry-sponsored scholarships, and skill-building courses. As a point of note, Anna University is a state university that was founded under the TN Act 30, 1978. CUIC collaborates closely with its industry partners to implement CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives at Anna University, such as funding Ph.D. fellowships and student scholarships, as well as planning skill development programs.
