About Bombay Veterinary College:

The veterinary profession was established in this nation in 1886 with the founding of The Mumbai Veterinary College in Mumbai. The first principal of the Mumbai Veterinary College, Prof. J. H. Steel, B.Sc. F.R.C.V.S., was a dynamic and experienced individual. In India, Principal J. H. Steel is regarded as the founder of contemporary veterinary education. He is also regarded as the founder of contemporary veterinary journalism. Veterinary College of Umbai. Originally located in the expansive grounds of the Bai Sakarbai Dinshaw Petit Hospital for Animals in Parel, Mumbai, the Mumbai Veterinary College was founded in 1883 by Sir D. M. Petit Baronet. Three Indian medical officers and a European farrier helped Professor J. H. Steel with the instruction. However, when two of these qualified veterinary graduates were made available in 1889, Principal J. H. Steel laid out his ambitious plans for the college's future growth in his yearly reports throughout the four years he oversaw it. According to his study, Our students will receive an average of the same amount of knowledge as the First Batch of Veterinary Students from the British school in 1886 before they become practitioners.

Our finest guys might not be on par with the top graduates from Europe, but they won't fall far short, and any shortcomings will eventually vanish as the college advances. In fact, Principal Steel covered a number of other topics in his in-depth reports, including the college's link with the nearby university and the minimal requirements for admission. It is confidently expected that in a very few years it (Mumbai Veterinary College) would be accredited with the Bombay University and the time will have arrived when admission may be refused to non-matriculates, he writes in his annual administration report (1888).

Bombay Veterinary College Course and Fee 2025:

When the college was established at Bai Sakarbai Dinshaw Petit Hospital for Animals, some of the hospital's structures were given to the government to be used by the institution. With some modifications and additions, including two sizable lecture halls, a library, a museum, a pharmacy, office spaces for the principal and professors, and quarters for the resident veterinary officer, the spacious central Main College Building house was used as the college building. The Secretary, S. P. C. A. Mumbai, was in charge of overall hospital and patient management, while the Principal and the Faculty were in charge of curriculum teaching and clinical practice. This dual control system operated for a while, but later on, post-mortem and animal dissection—two procedures that aid in diagnosis and scientific advancement—could not be carried out within the S. P. C. A. Hospital compound due to religious sentiments held by Jain-Hindu members. As a result, the Mumbai government built a dissection hall and a post-mortem room outside the hospital's grounds, but close to the Pathology Laboratory in 1891. Other structures, such dorms for students and a shoeing forge, were occasionally erected. The Patho-Bacteriological Laboratory, a three-story structure with Roman Gothic design, was constructed by Sir D. M. Petit and turned over to the government in 1891.
