When the college was established at Bai Sakarbai Dinshaw Petit Hospital for Animals, some of the hospital's structures were given to the government to be used by the institution. With some modifications and additions, including two sizable lecture halls, a library, a museum, a pharmacy, office spaces for the principal and professors, and quarters for the resident veterinary officer, the spacious central Main College Building house was used as the college building. The Secretary, S. P. C. A. Mumbai, was in charge of overall hospital and patient management, while the Principal and the Faculty were in charge of curriculum teaching and clinical practice. This dual control system operated for a while, but later on, post-mortem and animal dissection—two procedures that aid in diagnosis and scientific advancement—could not be carried out within the S. P. C. A. Hospital compound due to religious sentiments held by Jain-Hindu members. As a result, the Mumbai government built a dissection hall and a post-mortem room outside the hospital's grounds, but close to the Pathology Laboratory in 1891.
