Established on 2nd January 1885. The famous Deccan Education Society is the parent body of this college. The name of Fergusson College is in appreciation of the support from Sir James Fergusson, the then Governor of Bombay Province and also the first patron of the Deccan Education Society (DES).

Admission
Online applications are accepted for admission at Fergusson College. The application process can be completed online by the candidates. Both merit and entrance exam scores are equally important for admission to postgraduate programs. Eligibility requirement for progressing to higher years in BSc is candidates should have completed higher secondary school certificate (10+2) or its equivalent examination with English and mathematics and two of the science subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, Geology, etc.

Placement
The college has a separate industry-institute interaction cell now it is called a career facilitation centre and a placement assistance cell housed in the main building. Both these cells function under the career facilitation centre.
The main objective of the cell is to promote linkage between industries and Academia. Interaction with industry experts, panel discussions and career summits, training programs for students and teachers, etc., have become a regular feature of the college activity.
Every department has a placement coordinator who coordinates with the career facilitation centre. Pre-placement activities include interview skills, communication skills, and group discussion.

Hostel
The College provides accommodation/ hostel facilities for boys as well as girls. The hostel building is located on the college campus which is spread over 65 acres.
There are 6 hostels with an accommodation capacity of 441 male and 230 female students to manage the daily/ routine affairs of the hostels there is a separate Rector Office with dedicated staff for general administration. The parent organisation- the Deccan Education Society (DES) has constituted an independent committee- Hostel Management Committee, who manages the hostel.
Two honorary medical officers are visiting the hostels thrice in a week and providing medical consultation to the hostel students. The estate department of DES take care of regular maintenance of the hostel.
