This Induction training program is of 3 Semesters. Core, advanced courses will be taught in the first two semesters and a project will be assigned in the third semester. Two fully funded scholarships under the UK-India Education and Research Initiative (UKIERI) are being made available for the academic year 2008-2009 for Indian nationals who have a high academic record to pursue full-time doctoral research (Ph.D./D.Phil.) at renowned UK universities—University of Reading and University of East Anglia. The scholarships are available to applicants from all fields of study, although priority will be given to research topics like ocean-atmosphere processes, monsoon variability, and statistical downscaling techniques for climate modeling over India. Candidates must be Indian nationals under 35 years old with a postgraduate qualification (First or Upper Second Class) in an appropriate field, English-speaking, and not already in receipt of partial support from elsewhere. The award includes payment of academic charges, cost of international airfare, a monthly stipend, and visa fees. Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed, and chosen candidates are to work for a minimum of two years in India upon the completion of their Ph.D.
