Indian Maritime University (IMU), Navi Mumbai, formerly known as Training Ship Chanakya, was established in 1927 as India's first pre-sea training institute. It is the longest-standing maritime institute and the most prestigious in South-East Asia. In 2008, it was integrated into the Indian Maritime University, and subsequently, in 2017, it adopted the name Navi Mumbai campus. It is on a vast 40-acre campus located along Palm Beach Highway in Navi Mumbai.

 

IMU Navi Mumbai offers undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programs in maritime studies. The B.Sc. Nautical Science, which is also a flagship course, has a fee of INR 6,75,000 for three years. To be eligible, candidates must have passed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM) with at least 60% marks, and English with a minimum of 50% marks, along with meeting physical fitness and medical standards. The course will be offered based on percentages, physical fitness and medical requirements. The closing rank for the B.Sc. Nautical Science course in 2024 was 747, while the closing rank for the Diploma in Nautical Science (DNS) course was 579.

IMU Navi Mumbai Admission 2025

The IMU Navi Mumbai admission process 2025 consists of several stages, which includes satisfying certain eligibility requirements (10+2 with PCM 60% for UG, a relevant degree for PG), filling up the online application form, appearing for the IMU CET exam, submission of documents (e.g. marksheets, medical fitness certificate) and the final recruitment to IMU. Similarly, for the Diploma in Nautical Science (DNS) program, the closing rank was 1606 in 2022, rose to 2022 in 2023, but significantly improved to 579 in 2024.

Will I be able to take admission to IMU Navi Mumbai without qualifying for IMU CET?

No, IMU CET is a required entrance examination for the admissions to most Undergraduate and Postgraduate programs at IMU. Exceptions apply only to MBA (online) and sponsored seats (where CET may not be applicable based on conditions).

Does IMU Navi Mumbai provide distance learning and/or online learning programs?

At this present time, IMU Navi Mumbai has one online MBA program, an MBA in Maritime Management. All other programs are delivered in a full-time residential mode only.
