Maharana Pratap University of Agricultural and Technology was established in 1999 with the specific objective of meeting the farming needs of the southern and southeastern parts of Rajasthan. The university is approved by ICAR and AICTE. Rajasthan College of Agriculture, College of Technology and Engineering, and College of Dairy and Food Technology are the establishments coming under the jurisdiction of the MPUAT. Apart from agriculture, other courses are farming, engineering and food science offered at the university. It also researches to solve farming problems to help the farmers through training and workshops. Krishi Vigyan Kendras are run to teach farmers new and better ways of farming. MPUAT is engaged in educating, researching and helping rural areas for better agriculture and life of the farmers of Rajasthan with its focus on education and research.

The admission process of MPUAT Udaipur for 2025 consists of several UG, PG, and doctoral programs. Under JEE Main, counseling is done by the RTU and the candidates must have a valid score for the B.Tech admissions and the REAP mechanism is followed. M.Tech is a postgraduate program for which admission is done based on GATE scores, M.Sc, M.FSc admission needs a Pre PG entrance exam and PI, while admission in Mba is done based on Pre PG entrance exam and PI, and admission in Ph.D is based on Master degree with entrance exams and interviews.
