Shyam Lal College is recognized as a co-educational constituent college of Delhi University. The great visionary and businessman Padmashree (late) Shri Shyam Lal Gupta, who was the Chairman of the Shyam Lal Charitable Trust at the time, founded it in 1964. SLC concentrated on providing kids with a high-quality education, especially the females from the impoverished communities of East Delhi. It often offers remedial and spoken English sessions to students who struggle to keep up with the curriculum.
SLC DU provides one postgraduate course in Hindi along with eleven undergraduate courses in the humanities, sciences, and commerce. The CUET is the basis for admission to UG courses, and e-counseling comes next. Applicants must take the CUET PG exam in order to be considered for admission to PG courses.
SLC boasts 132 highly skilled and experienced faculty members, as well as 87 non-teaching staff members (including temporary faculty & non-teaching staff). The total area of the college campus is 29,501 square meters. To accommodate the expanding pedagogical demands, upgrades have been made to its infrastructure and other academic facilities. One of the most recent infrastructure additions to the campus is a brand-new structure called the Porta Block. It has a 100-seat seminar room that is state-of-the-art and equipped with ICT. In addition, the campus features a canteen, staff area, library, office, and seven well-equipped undergraduate labs.
