Veer Bahadur Singh Purvanchal University (VBSPU), formerly known as Purvanchal University, Jaunpur, was established on October 2, 1987, under the Uttar Pradesh State University Act of 1973. The university was renamed in honor of the late Shri Veer Bahadur Singh, a former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. Initially affiliated with 68 colleges, VBSPU has grown significantly, now overseeing 552 affiliated institutions that offer undergraduate and postgraduate programs. The university campus itself houses six faculty departments, while more than ten faculty departments operate across affiliated colleges. These departments specialize in various disciplines, including Engineering and Technology, Medicine, Management Studies, Applied Social Sciences, Science, and Law. VBSPU offers a diverse range of courses, with specializations in MBA, BA, BTech, BSc, MSc, MTech, and MCA, among others. The university is situated 10 km from the historic city of Jaunpur, along the Jaunpur-Shahganj road. Spanning 171.5 acres, the campus is uniquely divided into two parts by this roadway.
