MS Pharmacology FAQs

How does an MS pharmacology course differ from an MPharm pharmacology?

An MS in pharmacology is a more research-oriented and thesis-oriented degree, which is usually opted for by students who want to pursue opportunities in foreign countries, offering broader exposure to students in learning about the field in depth. An MPharm in Pharmacology combines theoretical aspects with research and training opportunities.

Can someone pursue an MS in pharmacology after completing a BSc in life science?

Yes. Many international universities accept candidates with a bachelor's degree in biology, biotechnology, Biochemistry, and even life sciences. If the students have a good academic record and qualify for the eligibility criteria, then getting into an MS pharmacology course is easier. However, in India, having a Bachelor of Pharmacy degree is mandatory for taking admission in an MS in pharmacology.

How can one pursue research opportunities after completing an MS in Pharmacology abroad?

After completing an MS in Pharmacology, students can opt for research programs abroad in the USA, UK, Germany, and Canada. The students, in a research program, will be focused on working in labs for conducting experiments in pharmacogenomics, neuropharmacology, and toxicology.

Is it mandatory to pursue a PhD after completing an MS in pharmacology to opt for a research and development role?

No. It is not always necessary to pursue a PhD only to land research and development roles in various top research institutes. An MS in pharmacology alone can help a student qualify for R&D roles. Moreover, a PhD is usually preferred for developing a more advanced and academically focused career in research in various universities and government labs..

Mention some emerging areas where there is a high demand and relevance for an MS in pharmacology.

The course of MS pharmacology is increasingly in demand, both in India and abroad, in areas like neuropharmacology, cancer therapeutics, nanomedicine, and psychopharmacology. The demand for the course is driven by growing global health challenges in the world, leading to an emphasis on targeted therapy developments.
