1923 Explanation: Radio broadcasting in India began as a private venture in June 1923 when the Radio Club of Bombay transmitted the country’s very first radio programme. This historic broadcast laid the foundation for mass wireless communication across the nation. Following this initial success, the government took over the broadcasting facilities in 1930, which were later renamed All India Radio (AIR) in 1936 and, in 1956, adopted the name Akashvani.
