GOA, 14th August 2025: Goa Institute of Management (GIM) celebrated the National Librarians’ Day to celebrate the birth anniversary of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan, the Indian mathematician-turned-librarian whose “Five Laws of Library Science” transformed the way knowledge is organised and accessed.
GIM paid tribute to the vision of Dr. Ranganathan by hosting an event that brought together academia, library professionals, and students. The programme was led by GIM’s Chief Librarian, Dr. Takappa R, and graced by Chief Guest, Dr. Carlos M Fernandes, renowned scholar and former Director of the Central Library, Panaji, along with Prof. Ajit Parulekar, Director, GIM.
During his keynote address, Chief Guest Dr. Carlos M Fernandes said, “Dr. Ranganathan’s classification system was nothing short of revolutionary. a homegrown, Indian framework that not only stood the test of time but also set global benchmarks in how knowledge is organised and shared.”
Dr. Parulekar, in his presidential address, stressed on the library’s role in shaping thought leaders and fostering a culture of curiosity. Equipped with advanced infrastructure, including automated KOHA systems (an integrated library system to manage resources, circulation, and other operations), RFID-enabled self-check-in and self-check-out, 24×7 access, and an expansive collection of print and digital resources. GIM library is built to support cutting-edge learning and scholarly excellence. Through initiatives such as the Institutional Digital Repository (built on DSpace), comprehensive research support, and round-the-clock access to e-resources, GIM Library situates itself not merely as a repository of knowledge, but as a dynamic hub where tradition meets technological transformation and user engagement flourishes.
