JEE Advanced cutoff trends for IIT Roorkee from 2024 to 2018 reflect a consistent pattern influenced by course popularity, seat availability, category-based reservation, and overall competition. Courses like Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Electronics and Communication Engineering have maintained some of the lowest opening and closing ranks, especially for General and OBC categories, signifying high demand. In contrast, branches like Polymer Science, Biotechnology, and Metallurgical Engineering generally showed higher closing ranks, indicating relatively lower demand.

FAQs

What is the meaning of opening and closing ranks in JEE Advanced cutoffs?

Opening rank refers to the rank of the first student admitted to a program, while closing rank is the last rank of admission for that course in a particular category.

Why do Computer Science and Engineering cutoffs remain the lowest at IIT Roorkee?

Due to its high placement packages, demand in the tech industry, and career prospects, Computer Science at IIT Roorkee consistently attracts top rankers, resulting in lower cutoffs.

What does the ‘P’ in ranks like 126P or 657P signify?

The ‘P’ indicates that the rank is from the Preparatory Rank List, used for filling unfilled reserved category seats with students who have cleared the preparatory course.

How does the number of seats in a course affect its cutoff rank?

Fewer seats generally lead to tighter competition and lower (better) cutoffs, while courses with more seats may have higher (less competitive) closing ranks.

Why do ST and SC categories have higher cutoff ranks than General or OBC categories?

Reserved categories like SC/ST have separate seat allotments and relaxed eligibility, which results in higher (i.e., more lenient) closing ranks.

What trends can be observed in Mechanical Engineering cutoffs at IIT Roorkee from 2016 to 2018?

Mechanical Engineering maintained mid-range cutoffs, consistently popular but not as competitive as CS or ECE, showing stability across all categories.

Did IIT Roorkee introduce any new courses after 2018 affecting the cutoff trends?

Yes, newer courses like Data Science and Artificial Intelligence and dual-degree options have since been added, diversifying preferences and impacting traditional course cutoffs.

How important is the difficulty level of JEE Advanced in determining cutoffs?

A tougher exam usually results in lower scores overall, which may slightly affect rank cutoffs, but seat distribution and preference trends have a larger impact.

Can I get into IIT Roorkee with a preparatory rank?

Yes, if you belong to the SC/ST category and qualify the preparatory course, you can be admitted via the Preparatory Rank List if regular seats remain unfilled.

How should a student use past cutoff data for JoSAA counseling?

Students should compare their JEE Advanced rank with historical cutoffs, and prioritize
