JoSAA Counselling 2025 includes multiple steps as mentioned below.

Registration: First, candidates must register on the official JoSAA website using their JEE Main or JEE Advanced details. All personal information should be correct. Most details cannot be changed after registration.

Choice Filling: Next, candidates must select the colleges and courses they want to join. These should be arranged in order of preference. Choices can be added, removed, or rearranged before the deadline.

Mock Seat Allotment: JoSAA will release two mock seat allotments. These practice rounds show which seat candidates might get based on their choices and rank. Candidates can use this information to change their choices if needed.

Choice Locking: Once candidates are satisfied with their choices, they must lock them before the deadline. Locked choices cannot be changed later.

Seat Allotment Rounds: JoSAA conducts several seat allotment rounds. Candidates may get seats in each round based on rank, preferences, and availability. Candidates can choose one of these options:

  • Freeze: Accept the allotted seat and do not participate in further rounds.
  • Float: Accept the seat but wish to try for a better course in future rounds.
  • Slide: Accept the seat, but want a better course in the same institute.

Fee Payment and Document Upload: If allotted a seat, candidates must pay the seat acceptance fee online and upload the required documents for verification. If the cost is not paid, the seat will be lost.

Online Reporting and Verification: After payment, candidates’ documents will be verified online. If everything is correct, the seat is confirmed.

Reporting to the Institute: After all rounds, candidates must physically report to the allotted institute to complete the admission process.

JoSAA Counselling 2025 FAQs

What is JoSAA Counselling 2025?

JoSAA Counselling 2025 is the process through which candidates are allotted seats in IITs, NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs based on their JEE Main or Advanced ranks. The process involves registration, filling choices of colleges and branches, seat allotment in multiple rounds, document verification, and reporting to the allotted institute. It is the official and only way to get admission into these top engineering colleges in India.

How do candidates register for JoSAA Counselling?

To register, candidates must visit the official JoSAA website and log in using their JEE Main or Advanced application number and password. After logging in, they must fill in their personal details, verify the information, and submit the registration form online. Registration is the first and most important step in the counselling process.

Can candidates change their choices after locking them?

No, once candidates lock their choices in the JoSAA portal, they cannot change or modify them. It is important to review and finalise all options before clicking the lock button. If candidates do not lock their choices, the system will automatically lock the last saved choices at the end of the choice filling period.

How is seat allotment done in JoSAA Counselling?

Seat allotment is based on the candidate’s JEE rank, category, seat availability, and choice order. JoSAA runs several rounds, and seats are allotted to candidates in each round according to these factors. The results are published online, and candidates must check their allotment status on the JoSAA portal.

What documents are needed for JoSAA Counselling?

Candidates must upload scanned copies of documents such as JEE admit card, rank card, Class 10 and 12 mark sheets, category certificate (if applicable), passport-sized photos, and seat acceptance fee receipt. The exact list is available on the JoSAA website and must be followed carefully.

How many colleges participate in JoSAA Counselling 2025?

In 2025, around 23 IITs, 32 NITs, 26 IIITs, and 35 GFTIs participate in JoSAA counselling. This means candidates have options to apply for admission in more than 100 top engineering colleges across India through a single process.

Is there any fee for JoSAA registration and choice filling?

There is no fee for JoSAA registration and choice filling. However, after a seat is allotted, candidates must pay an acceptance fee to confirm their seat and proceed with document verification. The fee amount and payment details are provided on the JoSAA website.

What if a candidate forgets to lock choices?

The system automatically locks the last saved choices if a candidate forgets to lock their choices before the deadline. These locked choices will be considered for seat allotment, so candidates must ensure their preferences are saved and correct before the deadline.
