The Centre for Excellence in Basic Sciences (CEBS) was established in 2007. Located within the University of Mumbai’s Kalina Campus, CEBS is an autonomous institution under the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Government of India, and operates in collaboration with the University of Mumbai. The institute offers a unique 5-year Integrated M.Sc. program in basic sciences, including Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Biology.

CEBS focuses on providing a strong foundation in science education combined with advanced research opportunities. CEBS Mumbai Courses 2025

CEBS, Mumbai, offers two academic programs: a 5-year Integrated M.Sc. and a Ph.D. in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Biology. Admission to the Integrated M.Sc. is through NEST and requires 10+2 with at least 60% marks (55% for SC/ST). Ph.D. candidates must hold a Master’s degree and qualify for national-level exams like GATE, CSIR-NET, or JEST, followed by an interview.

CEBS Mumbai Admission 2025

CEBS Mumbai accepts online applications for its Integrated M.Sc. and Ph.D. programs based on national-level entrance exams. Admission to the flagship Integrated M.Sc. programme is conducted through the National Entrance Screening Test (NEST), jointly organised by CEBS and NISER. Candidates are allotted seats based on NEST rank, counselling rounds, and seat availability.

For the Ph.D. programme, candidates must have a relevant M.Sc. degree along with a valid score in national-level exams such as GATE, UGC-CSIR-NET, JEST, or DBT-BET, followed by a written test/interview conducted by CEBS.

The standard eligibility for Integrated M.Sc. includes a minimum of 60% marks in 10+2 (55% for SC/ST/PD) from a recognised board and a valid NEST score. For Ph.D, a minimum of 55% in postgraduation and a valid qualifying exam score are required.

For Integrated M.Sc.

2. Go to the "Admissions" section and click on the NEST link or directly visit https://www.nestexam.in
3. Register with a valid email ID and phone number.
4. Fill in personal details, academic qualifications, and exam city preference.
5. Upload scanned documents and photographs.
6. Pay the NEST application fee: INR 1400 for General/OBC and INR 700 for SC/ST/PwD
7. Submit the form and download the confirmation page.

For Ph.D.

2. Navigate to "Ph.D. Programme" under the "Academics" section.
3. Download the admission notification and read the eligibility criteria carefully.
4. Fill out the Ph.D. application form as per the instructions in the notification.

6. Submit the form by the deadline (usually June)
7. Shortlisted candidates will be called for a written test/interview.

Campus Facilities

• CEBS is located on the residential Vidyanagari Campus of the University of Mumbai, in close proximity to premier research institutes like TIFR, BARC, and IIT Bombay.
• The academic infrastructure includes the Nalanda Building (housing administrative offices, faculty cabins, and teaching laboratories) along with prefabricated blocks used for classrooms and labs.
• The campus features modern research laboratories, a well-equipped library, computer labs with around 65 desktops, and high-speed internet access via the National Knowledge Network (NKN).
• Wi‑Fi connectivity is available across academic and residential zones.

Hostel Facilities

• The Integrated M.Sc. programme at CEBS is fully residential. All students are required to stay in the institute's hostels during the academic year.
• Hostel accommodation is provided in three types of facilities: Annabhau Sathe Bhavan, prefabricated hostel structures, and the newly constructed hostel block named Takshashila.
• Rooms are furnished with basic amenities including a bed, study desk, almirah, and fan. Sanitation facilities include separate bathrooms and washrooms, maintained daily by hostel staff.
• CEBS also offers sports infrastructure, including cricket grounds, volleyball courts, badminton, tennis facilities, and indoor games. Sports equipment is provided to students.
