Government Polytechnic College Lohaghat was established in 1975, it was initially situated in the border district of Pithoragarh, in a place called Fernhill. The institute was shifted to Lohaghat in 1990. The Government Polytechnic College Lohaghat’s campus is spread over 20 acres approximately. The institute offers various technical diplomas in branches such as Civil, Electronics, Mechanical and Information Technology Engineering, as well as two-year diplomas in Pharmacy and Modern Office Management (M.O.M) & Secretarial Practice. Engineering courses are conducted according to standards set by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), while the Pharmacy courses are governed by the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI). The Uttarakhand Board of Technical Education, Roorkee (UBTER), formed by the Government of Uttarakhand, is responsible for conducting and monitoring all the institutional operations like entrance and annual examinations, declaring results, and awarding diplomas.

The institute offers diplomas in various engineering and technology disciplines like Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, and Information Technology, approved by All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE).
