NLU Delhi Cutoffs: Ranks, Reservation and Counselling Process

Public/Government University|Estd. 2008|NAAC Grade A|NIRF #2 (Law) 2023

• Updated on Jul 21, 2025, by Priya Soni

Getting admission to the National Law University, Delhi, is very competitive. To get selected, students must score above the AILET cut-off rank, which is the minimum rank needed to get a seat. For the B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) course in 2025, the cut-off rank for the General category was around 60 by the third round of counselling, based on the official merit list. The cut-off ranks for OBC, SC, ST, and EWS categories were much higher (464 for OBC and 1,400 for SC) because of the reservation system. These cut-offs depend on many things, like the number of seats (only 110 for BA LL.B.), the number of students applying, how tough the exam was, and the reservation guidelines. Knowing these cut-offs gives students a rough idea about how much they need to score in AILET exams and what to aim for if they want to join NLU Delhi.

Factors Affecting NLU Delhi Cutoffs

For the AILET cut-offs at NLU Delhi, the following factors differ with each passing year:

  • Difficulty level of Exam: If the AILET paper is more difficult, fewer students score high. This can lead to a lower cut-off. On the other hand, an easier paper may result in higher cut-off marks.
  • Number of Candidates Participating: The more the participants the greater the competition. This is because there are more students competing to fill the same number of seats thus the cut-off score is likely to increase.
  • Number of Seats: NLU Delhi provides a very limited number of seats to its BA LLB and LLM programs. The lesser number of seats implies more competition, resulting in increased cut-offs, particularly in the General category.
  • Reservation Policy: NLU Delhi has reservations for OBC, SC, ST, EWS and PwD categories. This affects the cut-off scores of every category.
  • Student Performance: If more students perform well and score high marks, the cut-off increases. If overall scores are low across candidates, the cut-off may drop slightly.
  • Counselling and Dropouts: Multiple rounds of counselling happen. When students opt out or move to other NLUs, it may lower the cut-off slightly in later rounds.

NLU Delhi Reservation/Quota

Types of Reservation/Quota available in NLUD:

  • Central Government Reservation: This includes some fixed quotas (like SC, ST, OBC, and EWS) as per the central rules.
  • Institutional Reservation: NLUD also provides special reservations for women, PwD and foreign nationals under the institute rules.
