Nirma University Scholarships: UG Courses

Nirma University offers several scholarship options for undergraduate students. These help deserving and needy students manage the cost of study. Some schemes depend on merit. Some depend on both merit and family income.

The Nirma University scholarship for UG students includes these schemes:

  • Full tuition fee waiver
  • Merit scholarship
  • Merit cum Means scholarship
  • Interest-free loan support
  • Alumni-funded scholarship
  • Earn While You Learn scheme

Renewal is not automatic. The university checks performance every year. Students need a minimum PPI of 7. Students must meet the attendance requirement and must not use unfair means in exams.

Nirma University Scholarship for BTech: Full Tuition Fee Waiver

The full tuition fee waiver is the biggest benefit for BTech students. It is based on merit only. Your rank in JEE (Main) or the ACPC merit list decides your eligibility. The table below shows the rank needed for a full tuition fee waiver in each branch group.

Branch JEE (Main) Rank ACPC Merit Rank
Computer Science and Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering (AI and ML) 1 to 5500 1 to 75
Chemical, Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, Electronics and Communication, Electronics (VLSI Design and Semiconductor Technology), Electronics and Instrumentation 1 to 20000 1 to 200

Computer Science has tighter rank limits because demand is higher. Other branches have wider limits. A student who gets this waiver pays no tuition fee, as long as the renewal conditions are met each year.

Nirma University Merit Scholarship

The merit scholarship rewards top rankers. Each scholarship is worth INR 1 Lakh. Seats are split between All India and ACPC students. They are also split between department-wise and open merit lists.

The table below shows how many students get the merit scholarship in each category.

Particular All India ACPC
Department-wise (INR 1 Lakh each) Total 36 students Total 18 students
On open merit (INR 1 Lakh each) Top 12 students Top 6 students

Department-wise seats reward the best students in each branch. Open merit seats reward the best students overall. This gives students from every branch a fair chance.

Nirma University Merit cum Means Scholarship

This scheme suits students who have good marks and need financial help. It looks at merit and at family income. The university sets the income limits and may change them from time to time.

The table below lists the seats and the amount under this scheme.

Particular All India ACPC
Department wise (INR 1 Lakh each) Total 36 students Total 18 students
On open merit (INR 50,000 each) Top 43 students Top 17 students

The department-wise award is INR 1 Lakh. The open merit award is INR 50,000. The open merit list has more seats, so more students can benefit.

Interest-Free Loan at Nirma University

Some families take a bank loan to pay tuition fees. Nirma University helps by paying part of the interest. This is called interest subsidy. It covers loans taken for tuition fees. The benefit goes to 5% of the total student intake. The support depends on family income, as shown below.

Annual Family Income Interest Reimbursement
Up to INR 3 lakhs 100%
Up to INR 5 lakhs 50%

This scheme can reduce the total cost of a loan by a good margin. It works well alongside a merit scholarship.

Alumni Funded Scholarship and Earn While You Learn

Nirma also has two smaller schemes. Both are useful for students who need extra support. The Alumni Funded Scholarship is set up by the Nirma Institute of Technology Alumni Association (NITAA). Alumni want to give back by helping students in need.

Two students from each branch get this award every year. Earn While You Learn lets students earn a monthly amount through campus work. It suits students who receive no other financial benefit.

The table below compares the two schemes.

Scheme Amount or Benefit Key Conditions
Alumni Funded Scholarship INR 30,000 each, once a year PPI of 7.5, no scholarship from any other agency
Earn While You Learn Monthly sustenance money Family income up to INR 10 lakhs per year, no other university or government aid

Students in Earn While You Learn work up to 10 hours a week. They are placed in a section of the university. The number of students and the amount follow university norms.

Nirma University Scholarships: PG Courses

Postgraduate students get a monthly stipend based on merit. GATE qualified students get higher amounts. The stipend comes with a teaching or academic load of up to eight hours per week. The department decides the work.

The table below shows the stipend for PG students.

Category Monthly Stipend
First nine GATE qualified students INR 12400
All remaining students INR 8000

A GATE score gives you a clear edge here. Even students outside the top nine still get INR 8000 each month.

Nirma University Scholarships: PhD Courses

Full-time doctoral scholars get fellowships as per UGC norms. This support covers the whole research period. The pay steps up after two years

The table below explains the fellowship stages.

Year of Study Fellowship
First and second year Junior Research Fellowship (JRF)
Third year Senior Research Fellowship (SRF)

Fellows work eight hours a week on academic tasks. The department assigns this work. The exact fellowship amount follows UGC norms at the time.
