St Joseph's College is located in Bengaluru and was established in 1882 by the Paris Foreign Mission Fathers. In 1937, the college was taken over by the Jesuit order (Society of Jesus). The college was first affiliated with the University of Madras and then with the universities of Mysore and Bangalore. It was the first college in Karnataka to be awarded a Research Centre in 1988 and one of five Karnataka colleges to have been granted academic autonomy in 2005. St Joseph's University Bill was introduced in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly in February 2021 in the Karnataka state Assembly and Council. The college reached University status on 2 July 2022 and was inducted as India's first Public-Private-Partnership University by President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu on 27 September 2022.
