About UIIT

UIIT Shimla now officially the University Institute of Technology (UIT), is a government engineering institute on the Himachal Pradesh University campus in Summer Hill, Shimla, approved by AICTE. It offers B.Tech in six branches and M.Tech programmes. First-year B.Tech admission is through the HPU Common Entrance Test.

The institute started functioning on 11 September 2000 and was originally the University Institute of Information Technology (UIIT). Many people still search for it by that name, and UIIT HPU Shimla is the same institute. Himachal Pradesh University is a NAAC "A" Grade university.

UIIT Shimla Highlights 2026

UIIT Shimla is a government institute with about 1500 students. It began with 60 seats in B.Tech IT, added B.Tech CSE in 2013, and now has five departments. Here are the key details.

UIIT Shimla Courses and Fees 2026

UIIT Shimla offers B.Tech, M.Tech and Ph.D. programmes in engineering. B.Tech runs for 4 years (8 semesters) full time, and M.Tech runs for 2 years (4 semesters).

UIIT Shimla Admission 2026

Admission to B.Tech and B.Tech (Hons.) at UIIT Shimla is based on the HPU Common Entrance Test, followed by online counselling. Lateral entry to the second year goes by diploma or qualifying exam merit. UIT gives no direct or management-quota seats. Here is how how to get admission in UIIT Shimla worked in the 2026 cycle, step by step.

Step 1: Register and apply online. The form opened on 30 April 2026 and closed on 30 May for B.Tech first year, and on 20 July for lateral entry.

Step 2: Pay the application fee: INR 1,400 for General and INR 1,250 for SC/ST/PwD/EWS candidates.

Step 3: Download your admit card and sit the UIIT Shimla entrance test 2026, which was held on 12 June 2026. The pattern in the last full prospectus was 100 MCQs in 3 hours (Physics 33, Chemistry 33, Maths 34), with 0.5 marks deducted per wrong answer.

Step 4: Find your RM-ID in the tentative merit list (published 25 June 2026) and join the online counselling and interaction session on Google Meet in your time slot. Sessions began on 2 July.

Step 5: Fill the online counselling form and upload your documents by 6 July. Only candidates who complete the form are marked present for counselling.

Step 6: Check the merit list and pay the admission fee within the deadline, which is usually two days after the list. The first merit list came out on 10 July (fee last date 14 July), followed by revised lists through early August. An open round filled vacant seats, and lateral entry had its own lists from 6 August.

UIIT Shimla Placement 2026

The UIIT Shimla placement cell is led by the Training Placement Officer under the Director. It stays in touch with recruiters, arranges career counselling, trains students for resumes, group discussions and interviews, and helps with internships. The latest batch record in the institute's prospectus shows more than 85% of the 2018-22 batch placed.
