Founded in 1969, Guru Nanak Dev University is in Amritsar. GNDU is an affiliating and a residential university and is acknowledged by the UGC. NAAC has accredited the university with 'A++' grade and the UGC has awarded it the status of 'University with Potential for Excellence'. GNDU ranked 48 under the 'University' category by NIRF ranking in 2023. Further, it is the sole University with Category-I status in Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh states.
GNDU provides UG, PG, diploma, short-term, and certificate courses in various streams like Engineering, Architecture & Planning, IT & Software, Hospitality & Travel, Teaching & Education, Science, and Law. The majority of UG programmes, GNDU admit students depending on their performance on the Class 12 exam. Admission to all PG programmes at GNDU is based on merit or entrance examination. GNDU also provides a small number of Certificate, Diploma, and Postgraduate Diploma courses. Entrance to each of these courses is solely based on merit.
GNDU offers centralized placement. TCS Ninja has recruited about 169 students in the current academic year (2022-2023). Also, a 6-month summer internship programme was made available to students in 2022, with the maximum salary being INR 80,000 per month. Axis Bank, Wipro, HCL, Trident, Capegemini, ITC, Jubilant, Nestle, SAP, Sun Pharma, Tech Mahindra, ICICI Prudential, Bandhan Bank, and Nagarro are among the other major employers.

At GNDU, Scholarships were provided for financially backward classes and residents of Punjab who belong to the SC/ST category. The BR Ambedkar program is one such scholarship program for backward classes. This provides a full concession for students in even semesters. The preference is given to the students from the rural areas of Punjab.

Yes, most of the courses in GNDU pre-requisitely ask for JEE main score or to clear the GNDU entrance test for specific courses. The major prerequisite is to pass higher secondary education with a score of 55% marks. Depending on the specialization you opt for, admission is either done on the merit basis or on the basis of an entrance test at GNDU.
The environment of GNDU is just like another government university in Punjab. GNDU has various in-house clubs for students to enhance their co-curricular activities in music, and dance and helps students to participate in inter college youth festivals.

Students can apply for transcripts by means of both online and offline. Students can request an application form in the GNDU transcript office stating the reason for getting a transcript and have to pay the fee to complete the process. They can also apply through the college website.
The hostel fee can be refunded. If the student wishes to leave after taking a room, then the amount will be refunded after deducting the month of their stay from the deposited fees and an additional processing fee of Rs.1000 will be added to it.
The PG programmes of GNDU include M.Sc. (Hons), M.A., M.Arch, M.Plan, MPT Maharashtra, and MSW. The University's entrance exam serves as the basis for admission to these programmes. However, admission to the M.Sc. (Hons) programmes in physics, chemistry, or human genetics will be granted depending on the candidate's performance in the B.Sc (Hons).
Comparing the placement statistics of both colleges, CGC Landran is considered better than GNDU as the college conducts regular TPP lectures, and training sessions from 1st year and has a 100% placement rate with Microsoft, Google, Adobe, and TCS as their top recruiters. GNDU has better placement opportunities than DAVIET. However, GNDU's main campus is considered better than its regional campuses.
The application fee for Law admissions at GNDU Amritsar is INR 2000 for the general category and INR 1000 for the reserved category.
