IVRI was established in December 1889 in Pune, Maharashtra, standing as one of the individual state of the art institutions for veterinary research and education in India. In 1893, the institute was then relocated to Mukteshwar, and in 1913 it was expanded to Izatnagar, Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, to facilitate large-scale serum and vaccine production. The institute has been accredited by NAEAB.
With time IVRI has strengthened its reach with campuses in Mukteshwar, Bengaluru, and regional stations in Palampur, Kolkata, and Pune, solidifying its role as a national leader in veterinary science. The Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI) Izatnagar campus hosts different undergraduate (B.VSc. & B.Tech. Biotech), postgraduate (M.VSc., MSc) and research programmes (PhD) in veterinary sciences for the students.

IVRI offers admission to a wide range of academic programs, including undergraduate (B.V.Sc. & A.H, B.Tech. Biotechnology.), postgraduate (M.V.Sc.,MSc.,MBA), and Research(Ph.D.) degrees. The UG course duration varies as per the course requirements. Admissions are conducted through the Veterinary Council of India's entrance examination. The M.V.Sc. and Ph.D. programs admit students based on the All India Entrance Examination conducted by ICAR through the National Testing Agency (NTA). Admission to every course at Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI) is completely based on entrance examination basis followed by a counselling and document verification process and for some courses like PhD interview may be conducted. Application for admission in any of the programmes can be completed in online mode from the official website of IVRI. Detailed admission process for each course is mentioned below-
B.V.Sc. & A.H.:
Admission in B.V.Sc. & A.H. programme is based on the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). And for the counselling process students must apply through the Veterinary Council of India (VCI).
B.Tech. Biotechnology
Admissions to B.Tech. Biotechnology is conducted through CUET (Common University Entrance Test) entrance examination and is followed by counselling conducted by ICAR.
M.V.Sc. and Ph.D
Admissions to M.V.Sc. and Ph.D programmes are conducted through the All India Entrance Examination (AIEEA-PG and AICE-JRF/SRF) administered by ICAR and conducted by NTA.
