The oldest art college in Mumbai, Maharashtra, Sir Jamshedji Jeejeebhoy School of Art, more commonly known as Sir JJ School of Art, was established in March 1857. The institute, affiliated with the University of Mumbai, offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and diploma courses under its umbrella in the field of fine arts.
The BFA course is offered in six specializations: Painting, Sculpture, Metalwork, Ceramics, Textile Design, and Interior Decoration, and each course takes four years to complete.
The BFA program has different seats, with 30 seats for Painting, 5 seats for Sculpture, Metalwork, and Ceramics, and 15 seats for Textile Design and Interior Decoration. Candidates who have completed their higher secondary education with no percentage can apply for the BFA course.
They have to clear the Maharashtra Applied Arts and Crafts-Common Entrance Test (MH-AAC-CET) too, to be eligible for the said course. For postgraduate studies, nine specializations are provided by the MFA programme like Portrait, Creative Painting, Sculpture, Graphic (Printmaking), Mural, Interior Decoration, Textile Design, Metalwork, and Ceramics. MFA Courses Last for two years; specialization admits five students for the course. A degree of Bachelor of Fine Arts is required for the applicant, which he has acquired from a recognized university. Institute provides four different kinds of Diploma courses. These all differ in their requirements for admission, durations, and intakes of students.

Bachelor of Fine Arts course is available in streams like Painting, Sculpture, Metal work, Ceramics, Textile Design and Interior Decoration. BFA is a full-time, four year course. MH-AAC-CET exam is to be cleared by students to be able to get a seat for the course BFA.
Basic Eligibility to Apply for Undergraduate Courses The basic eligibility is higher secondary pass (10+2) from any recognized board or university. Students who have an art background get added advantage though science and commerce students also get admitted.

Those who desire to get admission in a Master of Arts course in this institute must have cleared BFA from any recognized university of India. Generally, MFA is done in the same subject as BFA.
MFA is provided by the institute in 9 streams, namely - Portrait Painting, Creative Painting, Sculpture, Graphic, Printmaking, Mural, Interior Decoration, Textile Design, Metalwork and Ceramic. No entrance test for entrance at PG level is required to pursue this course. It takes two years to do this MFA course.

In addition to regular degree UG and PG courses, the institute provides a number of Diploma courses. Anyone desirous of sharpening his or her creative skills can take up diploma courses.
