Vijaybhoomi University, known as VU, is India's first Liberal Professional University. Established in 2019 and located in Karjat, Greater Mumbai, it is recognised by the University Grants Commission under Section 2(f) of the UGC Act, 1956. VU carries forward more than three decades of institution-building experience through the legacy of IFIM Business School and the Jagdish Sheth School of Management (JAGSoM), founded in Bengaluru in 1995 by the late Shri V. B. Padode. Its mission is to nurture holistic, socially responsible and continuously employable professionals, and its vision is to be the most sought-after destination for Liberal Professional Education.
The liberal professional model is the heart of VU. Instead of asking students to choose a stream before they know their strengths, VU opens with a Foundation Year of exploration across business, technology, law, design and music. Students then declare a major, add minors and can combine subjects across schools, for example business with technology or music with AI. The framework follows NEP 2020 and uses outcome-based education, criterion-based grading, an Academic Bank of Credits and a formal credit-transfer policy.
VU is organised into schools that students are free to move between in their first year: the Jagdish Sheth School of Management (BBA, BBA-KPMG, Integrated BBA-MBA, MBA), KEDGE Mumbai (the 2+2 Global BBA with KEDGE in France and specialised one-year MSc programs), the Vijaybhoomi School of Science and Technology (B.Tech programs in computer science and in AI), the Vijaybhoomi School of Design (B.Des), the Vijaybhoomi School of Law (BBA LLB) and The True School of Music (BPA, BFA Music Production and B.Tech Sound Engineering).
Practice-based learning is built into the degree. Credited practice courses include the Personality Enhancement Program, the Social Immersion Program, Research or Innovation Incubation and the Industry Internship Program, which has a six-week short internship and a long full-time internship. Together these account for 32 practice credits. The Centre for Continuous Learning and Employability (CCLE) adds MiracleX corporate mentoring, FutureWorks industry sessions, Alterlighting live industry projects, XploreOut industry visits and FutureConnect for internships and final placements.
The campus is a 64-acre, fully residential setting in the Western Ghats, about two hours from Mumbai and Pune. Facilities include air-conditioned digital classrooms, a FAB Lab, robotics, engineering and computer labs, music production studios, a design lab, the Revive Sports Complex with a swimming pool and squash court, a library, an auditorium, air-conditioned hostels, a Sodexo-managed dining centre and a 24/7 infirmary. Campus life includes the Jamrang intercollege festival, the KOLAB songwriting camps and Kanyathon, the student-led marathon, Kanyathon that funds education for girls.
VU reports a highest CTC of INR 18 LPA and an average CTC of INR 8 LPA, with 82% of students receiving paid internships and 27% receiving pre-placement offers. Recruiters include Amazon, Oracle, SAP, Capgemini, Deloitte, PwC, KPMG, Siemens, Federal Bank, HDFC Bank and Tata Capital. Admission is based on the VU Scholastic Aptitude Test (VUSAT) or recognised national and state test scores, followed by a panel interview, with portfolio routes for music and design. Scholarships for EWS, armed forces wards, merit, performance and girl-child candidates keep access open. Portal listings should present academic structure, practice courses, placement evidence and international pathways with equal clarity, without reducing VU to a single salary or ranking claim.
