BAMS is a 5.5-year undergraduate program in the field of Ayurvedic medicine. Though NEET-UG is the general entrance exam for admission to BAMS in the majority of Indian colleges, some minority colleges, private colleges, and deemed universities have alternative admissions through their own entrance examinations, such as IPU CET or direct admission through marks in the 12th grade. Candidates must have passed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks and must be at least 17 years of age on December 31 of the admission year.

Universities like Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU), Parul University, and others allow BAMS admission through other entrance examinations other than NEET or through direct admission under management quota. Applicants must ensure the institute is recognized by the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM) for the degree to be valid.

Even though NEET remains the basis for the majority of BAMS admissions in India, such students have limited opportunities in certain domestic colleges or can consider Ayurvedic courses in other nations like Nepal and Sri Lanka. Also, one should confirm the accreditation of any such course for future practice eligibility.
