B.Sc Nutrition is a three year undergraduate degree that explores science of food, nutrition and dietetics and qualifies the student to work in the field of health, wellness and clinical nutrition. The program includes both theoretical knowledge and practical training and addresses topics in human physiology, food chemistry and diet planning.

The cost of studying B.Sc Nutrition is highly different in private and government colleges in India. This course is usually provided at very low rates through government colleges and the general course fee is between INR 1,00,000-2,00,000. This reduced fee is feasible because of the considerable governmental aid and financing and a wider variety of students have access to quality education.

Conversely, the private colleges offer B.Sc Nutrition at higher fees, mostly between INR 1, 50,000- 5,00,000. Cost is higher due to investment in modern infrastructure, advanced laboratories, industry tie-up and non-existence of government subsidy.

The major cause of fee variance is the mode of funding: government colleges are subsidized by the government, which eases the economic burden on students; private colleges are self-funded and have to earn in operative and developmental expenses through tuition fee. The overall B.Sc Nutrition fee in government colleges can vary by an average of INR 30,000-80,000, whereas that in private colleges is approximately INR 2,00,000-3,50,000.

FAQs

Are hostel and accommodation charges included in the B.Sc Nutrition course fee?

Hostel and accommodation charges are usually not included in the standard B.Sc Nutrition tuition fee. Students who opt for on-campus housing must pay separate hostel fees, which can vary widely depending on the city, facilities, and type of room selected. These charges may also cover mess or food expenses, but sometimes mess fees are billed separately. It’s important for students to check the college’s detailed fee structure before applying.

Is there a difference in B.Sc Nutrition fees for lateral entry or diploma holders?

Yes, some colleges allow lateral entry into the second year for students holding relevant diplomas. The fee for lateral entry students is generally calculated only for the remaining years of the course, rather than the full three years. However, there may be additional administrative or transfer charges. The exact fee structure for lateral entry can differ from regular admissions, so candidates should confirm with the college.

Do colleges charge any refundable security deposit as part of the fee?

Most colleges require students to pay a refundable security deposit at the time of admission. This deposit is meant to cover any potential damage to property or unpaid dues and is returned after the course is completed, provided all dues are cleared. The security deposit amount is usually modest compared to the tuition fee. It is a one-time payment and is not included in the tuition or hostel fees.

Are there any hidden or miscellaneous charges apart from tuition and hostel fees?

Yes, apart from tuition and hostel fees, students may encounter additional charges such as laboratory fees, library fees, examination fees, and charges for workshops or field visits. Sometimes, colleges also charge for identity cards, alumni association membership, or extracurricular activities. These miscellaneous fees are generally listed in the detailed fee structure but may not be highlighted in the main course fee.

Does the mode of admission (merit-based vs. management quota) affect the total fee?

The mode of admission can significantly impact the total fee, especially in private colleges. Students admitted through management quota or NRI quota often pay much higher fees compared to those admitted on merit. The difference can be substantial, sometimes double or more, and may also include additional one-time charges. It’s crucial to clarify the fee structure based on your admission category before confirming your seat.
