Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has opened the admission process for private candidates appearing in the 2026 board exams. Students who fall under categories such as Fail, Essential Repeat, Compartment, or Improvement of Performance can register online through the official CBSE website – cbse.gov.in.

 

The application window for CBSE Class 10 and 12 private students started on September 9, 2025, and will remain open till September 30, 2025 (without late fees). With late fees, the last date for submission is October 11, 2025. Candidates can only apply for subjects auto-generated in the online system based on their previous exam records.

 

The CBSE admit card for private students will also be issued online, tentatively in February 2026. The exams for Class 10 are expected from February 17 to March 6, 2026, while Class 12 exams will begin from February 17, 2026. Results will likely be announced in May 2026.

CBSE Private Exam 2026 Eligibility for Full Subjects (5/6 subjects)

  • Students who were declared Fail in Class 12 (2020–2025).
  • Students placed in Essential Repeat in Class 12 (2023–2025).
  • Students who missed exams due to medical reasons.
  • Women candidates residing in Delhi who passed Class 10 but could not join regular schooling.
  • Physically challenged candidates from Delhi with genuine proof of not being able to attend regular schools.

CBSE Private Exam 2026 Eligibility for Compartment (1 Subject)

  • Students who got Compartment in 2024 can reappear only in that subject

 

CBSE Private Exam 2026 Eligibility for Improvement of Performance

  • Students who passed Class 12 in 2025 can appear again in one or more subjects to improve their marks

 

CBSE Private Exam 2026 Eligibility for Additional Subject

  • Candidates can apply for one additional subject within two years of passing the exam

Note: Students applying for improvement cannot opt for additional subjects, and vice versa.
