JEE Main 2027 Eligibility Criteria
JEE Main 2027 eligibility rests on three fixed conditions: Class 12 passed in one of three years (2025, 2026 or 2027), two compulsory subjects (Physics and Mathematics), and a 75% Class 12 score that applies only at the admission stage.
| Criterion | Requirement |
| Year of passing Class 12 | 2025 or 2026, or appearing in 2027 |
| Subjects | Physics and Mathematics compulsory, with Chemistry, Biotechnology, Biology or a technical vocational subject |
| Number of attempts | Two sessions a year, within three consecutive years of passing Class 12 |
| Age limit | None |
| Class 12 marks to sit the exam | No minimum |
| Class 12 marks for NIT, IIIT and GFTI admission | 75% (65% for SC and ST), or a place in the top 20 percentile of the candidate's board |
A candidate who passed Class 12 in 2024 is not eligible for JEE Main 2027, because 2027 falls outside the three-year window. The 75% rule applies only at the admission stage through JoSAA, not at registration.
JEE Main 2027 Reservation for Admission
Reservation applies at JoSAA counselling, not at registration. The four vertical categories together hold 59.5% of seats (27% + 15% + 10% + 7.5%), leaving 40.5% open to all candidates. The 5% PwD reservation applies within every category.
| Category | Seats reserved |
| OBC-NCL | 27% |
| SC | 15% |
| Gen-EWS | 10% |
| ST | 7.5% |
| PwD (horizontal, across all categories) | 5% |
Category certificate rules and relaxations are covered in our JEE Main reservation criteria guide.

Paper 1 has 75 questions in 180 minutes, an average of 2.4 minutes per question. Each subject carries 100 marks: 80 from 20 MCQs and 20 from 5 numerical questions. Numerical questions therefore make up 20% of the paper (60 of 300 marks).

| Physics | 20 | 5 | 25 | 100 |
| Chemistry | 20 | 5 | 25 | 100 |

| Pattern detail | Paper 1 |

JEE Main Exam Pattern Change: Before and After 2025
NTA removed 15 optional numerical questions from Paper 1 in 2025, cutting it from 90 questions to 75 while keeping the total at 300 marks. The change also brought negative marking to the 60 marks of numerical questions, which earlier carried no penalty.
| Feature | Up to JEE Main 2024 | JEE Main 2025 and 2026 |
| Numerical questions per subject | 10, attempt any 5 | 5, all compulsory |
| Total questions in Paper 1 | 90 (75 to be attempted) | 75 (all compulsory) |
| Negative marking on numerical questions | No | Yes, −1 |
NTA has not announced any change to this pattern for 2027. Paper 2A (B.Arch) has 77 questions and Paper 2B (B.Planning) has 100. See our report on JEE Main 2027 expected changes for updates.
JEE Main 2027 Application Fee
The fee for JEE Main 2027 will be confirmed in the information bulletin. The 2026 fee for exam centres in India was:
| Category | One paper | Two papers |
| General, male | ₹1,000 | ₹2,000 |
| General, female | ₹800 | ₹1,600 |
| SC, ST, PwD | ₹500 | ₹1,000 |
A General female candidate pays 20% less than a General male candidate (₹800 against ₹1,000), and SC, ST and PwD candidates pay half the General male fee. Choosing two papers doubles the fee in every category.
Candidates choosing an exam centre outside India paid ₹5,000 (General, male) or ₹4,000 (General, female) for one paper in 2026, five times the India fee.
JEE Main Cutoff for JEE Advanced: 2023 to 2026
NTA releases the qualifying percentile for JEE Advanced with the Session 2 result. In 2026, it was published on 20 April.
| Category | 2026 | 2025 | 2024 | 2023 |
| General (UR) | 93.4123549 | 93.1023262 | 93.2362181 | 90.7788642 |

| SC | 63.9172792 | 61.1526933 | 60.0923182 | 51.9776027 |
| ST | 52.0174712 | 47.9026465 | 46.6975840 | 37.2348772 |
The General cutoff has risen 2.63 percentile points since 2023, and the ST cutoff 14.78 points. In 2026, the OBC-NCL cutoff crossed 80 for the first time.
JEE Main 2026: Candidates Qualified for JEE Advanced
JEE Advanced is open to the top 2,50,000 JEE Main candidates, divided by category. The five main categories accounted for 2,45,791 qualifiers in 2026, and the remainder came from PwD categories.
| Category | Candidates qualified | Share of the five categories | Reservation share |
| General (UR) | 96,873 | 39.4% | 40.5% (open) |
| OBC-NCL | 67,597 | 27.5% | 27% |
| SC | 37,522 | 15.3% | 15% |
| Gen-EWS | 25,009 | 10.2% | 10% |
| ST | 18,790 | 7.6% | 7.5% |
| Total | 2,45,791 | 100% | 100% |
Each category's share of qualifiers tracks its reservation share within 1.1 percentage points, because NTA sets the category cutoffs to fill each category's quota of the 2,50,000 places.
In 2026, 12 candidates scored 100 percentile in Session 1 and 26 in Session 2. Our JEE Main exam guide tracks the 2027 cutoff once it is released.
