NEET 2025 Preparation: Five Common Mistakes that Bring Your Score Down

Last update: Apr 30, 2025

Candidates who dream of pursuing a medical career must score valid marks in the NEET 2025 and secure admission to top colleges in India. However, NEET is quite a competitive exam taken by more than 21 lakh students annually. It is a challenging journey that requires meticulous preparation, hard work, patience, and dedication. NTA is set to conduct the NEET 2025 on May 4, 2025, in a single shift from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM.

NEET aspirants of 2025 dream of qualifying for the NTA NEET 2025 in one attempt. However, the reality is that not all students succeed after the results are declared. It is not their lack of determination or hard work that makes them falter. Sometimes, the problem lies in the smallest things students tend to ignore. In this blog, we’ll cover five common mistakes that bring your score down for the NEET 2025:

  • Ignoring the NCERT: When preparing for the NEET 2025, students cannot afford to ignore the NCERT. It is a common mistake made by many NEET aspirants to focus only on reference materials and not go through the NCERT syllabus. NCERT should always be the first book to consider when preparing for the NEET exam. It is advised first to pick the NCERT to study any topic or concept, and then move on to any other book.
  • Relying only on Mock Tests: Many students think that only solving mock tests will help them score more and achieve a good rank. However, students should not only rely on mock tests when preparing for a competitive exam like NEET. The candidates ensure to analyse the previous year’s question papers and understand the NEET Exam Pattern and the syllabus. When students start to understand the nuances of a specific chapter, it helps them grasp the concepts and progress to an advanced stage.
  • Lack of Analysis: Some students practice mock tests regularly, revise all the chapters, and take doubt-clearing lessons, yet still score poorly in the NEET exam. This happens because of neglecting time management skills. When you’re solving mock tests or previous years’ NEET Question Papers, it is crucial to manage time efficiently and analyse your performance. During analysis, students understand which questions require more time and identify gaps in their knowledge.
  • Referring to Multiple Books: The minute students decide to appear for the NEET, the first thing they do is search for books. Most students buy more than 4 or 5 reference books for a subject. And all these books do a single job, confusing students. Another problem is that students often switch from one book to another without completing a chapter. This also leads to confusion, and students lose time by switching. Hence, the first and foremost thing all NEET aspirants should do is buy the NCERT for the main book and a reference book on the same subject. Once they’re done with these books, they can refer to the third book for additional concepts or exercises.
  • Not Taking Enough Breaks: The biggest mistake aspirants make while preparing for the NEET exam is not taking enough breaks and stressing themselves out. Sometimes, students isolate themselves from the outside world, stop interacting with their friends, and spend no time with their families. Students should keep their minds refreshed, because it improves concentration, enhances memory and reduces stress. You can spend time with your friends, watch movies, or do what makes you happy because staying highly motivated is one of the keys to acing the NEET exam.

Summing Up:

Preparing for the NEET exam is not an easy task. It can be stressful right from the beginning. But, students can only crack this exam with dedication, following the right strategies, adopting innovative approaches, and staying healthy. Also, being with family and friends and taking mental support from them can help you achieve the remarkable result that you dream of.
