About CISH

Central Institute for Subtropical Horticulture (CISH) was established in 1972 in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). It is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) for its research, education, and subtropical horticultural crop development contribution. The institute was originally established as the Central Mango Research Station and was later upgraded to an independent institute, receiving its current name in 1995.

 

Central Institute for Subtropical Horticulture offers Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) courses in agriculture and horticulture. The courses are structured to supply insight into subtropical fruits, crop improvement, protection of plants, post-harvest management, and bioinformatics applications. Central Institute for Subtropical Horticulture possesses two experimental farms: a major farm at Rehmankhera (132.5 ha) and a minor farm on Rai Bareli Road (13.2 ha) in Lucknow. It has well-equipped laboratories for pesticide residue analysis, bio-control, and post-harvest technology. CISH Lucknow also has scientific nurseries, orchards, and a trainees' hostel-cum-guest house. Students and scientists at CISH are provided with a well-equipped library with books, journals, and periodicals on horticulture.
