The Institute for Communicative and Cognitive Neurosciences (ICCONS) is an autonomous not-for-profit neuroscience specialty hospital and research institute located at Shoranur, Palakkad district, Kerala. Founded in 1998, ICCONS operates under the Society for Rehabilitation of Cognitive and Communicative Disorders (SRCCD), an autonomous body registered under the Travancore-Cochin Literary, Scientific and Charitable Societies Act, 1955. The institute is recognized by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) and is the first of its kind in Asia for comprehensive multidisciplinary management, research, and rehabilitation of cognitive and communicative disorders. ICCONS offers 1 UG program with 20 seats in Audiology & Speech Therapy, led by an integrated team of neurologists, speech-language pathologists, audiologists, clinical psychologists, and physiotherapists. The institute treats conditions including autism spectrum disorder, cerebral palsy, learning disabilities, developmental language disorders, stroke-related impairments, dementia, and various genetic and metabolic disorders affecting speech, language, and cognitive functions across all age groups. In September 2019, ICCONS signed a research collaboration agreement with IIT Palakkad to develop assistive and rehabilitation technology.

Institute for Communicative and Cognitive Neurosciences Admission Deadlines

ICCONS Palakkad typically opens admissions for its B.Sc. in Audiology & Speech Therapy program during May–June each academic year, aligned with the Kerala state academic calendar and Kerala Plus Two/CBSE 12th board examination results. Application windows generally remain active for 3–4 weeks, with shortlisting and counseling conducted in June–July for the academic session commencing in August. Prospective candidates should monitor the official ICCONS website and RCI notifications for precise dates, as deadlines may vary slightly year to year. Merit-based selection considers 12th-grade marks in Science subjects (Biology, Physics, Chemistry), with preference given to candidates scoring above 60% aggregate. Document verification and final seat allocation occur in late July, allowing successful applicants to complete enrollment formalities before the semester begins.

Institute for Communicative and Cognitive Neurosciences UG Admission

ICCONS Palakkad offers a single UG program—B.Sc. in Audiology & Speech Therapy—with an annual intake of 20 seats. Admission is primarily merit-based, requiring candidates to have passed the 10+2 examination with Science stream (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) from a recognized board such as Kerala Higher Secondary, CBSE, or equivalent. Minimum eligibility typically requires 50–55% aggregate marks in Science subjects, though specific cutoffs may fluctuate based on applicant pool strength. The selection process involves scrutiny of academic records, followed by counseling sessions where candidates present original certificates for verification. The program duration is 4 years (8 semesters), and the course is approved and recognized by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI), ensuring graduates are eligible for professional licensure. Total tuition fees for the entire program range approximately INR 2.5–3.5 Lakh, excluding hostel, examination, and miscellaneous charges. ICCONS does not mandate any specific entrance exam beyond state/CBSE board results, making admission accessible to students with strong foundational science knowledge and a genuine interest in communication sciences and cognitive neuroscience.

Institute for Communicative and Cognitive Neurosciences Application Process

The application process for ICCONS Palakkad's B.Sc. in Audiology & Speech Therapy is straightforward and merit-driven, beginning with the release of the admission notification on the official website in May–early June. Interested candidates must download the application form (available as a PDF) or obtain a physical copy from the institute's administrative office at the Shoranur campus.
