Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, established on 14th June 2010 under Ordinance No. 44/2010 and later Act 3/2011 of the Government of Kerala, is a public-funded university headquartered at Pookode, Wayanad. It has expanded from 3 to 8 constituent colleges and an Academic Staff College, offering over 40 academic programmes to more than 3,000 students. The university has three faculties: Veterinary Sciences, Dairy Technology, and Poultry Science and offers programmes including Diploma courses, B.Sc. (Hons.) Poultry Production and Business Management, and various M.Sc. programmes. Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University has developed infrastructure worth over INR 400 crores, including advanced facilities like the Dr. K. R. Narayanan Teaching Veterinary Clinical Complex and Dr. Verghese Kurien Institute of Dairy and Food Technology. It has established academic collaborations with institutions like the University of Edinburgh, the University of Minnesota, and ICAR, and operates five NABL-accredited labs with more in progress.
