About NIFT Kangra

The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) in Kangra is a premier institution dedicated to excellence in fashion education. Founded in 2009, Hon'ble Minister of Textiles Mr. Shankar Singh Waghela and Hon'ble Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Prof. Prem Kumar Dhumal, inaugurated NIFT Kangra on 5th August 2009. Located in the picturesque Kangra Valley, overlooking the beautiful Dhauladhar Himalayan Ranges, the institute has rapidly established itself as a leading fashion education center in Northern India. The institute offers B.Des, B.F.Tech, MFM, M.Des and CE courses. Admission is based on NIFT

The average annual package for PG students was INR 4.30 LPA and 5.70 for UG students. According to another reliable source, the placement rate of NIFT Kangra in 2023-24 was 66% with INR 6 LPA as highest package and INR 5.4 LPA as the average salary.

NIFT Kangra follows a structured and comprehensive admission process for prospective students. All undergraduate and postgraduate programmes are admitted through an All India entrance examination. The admission calendar typically begins in December when the admission notice is published, and examinations are conducted in February.

For Master's/Bachelor's programs (B.Des & B.F.Tech), the admission process consists of:

1. Creative Ability Test (CAT) - Tests the candidate's creative thinking, innovation, and problem-solving abilities
2. General Ability Test (GAT) - Assesses the candidate's quantitative ability, communication skills, English comprehension, analytical ability, and general knowledge
3. Situation Test (only for B.Des) - Evaluates hands-on skills and innovative ability under specific conditions
