• Updated on  Jul 25, 2025, by Kirti Mehendiratta

The Bachelor of Dental Surgery is a professional undergraduate program in the field of dental sciences. It is a five-year course that includes four years of academic study and one year of compulsory rotatory internship. The course gives the students the knowledge base and clinical skills they need to diagnose, treat, and prevent dental and oral diseases. Those successfully completing the course can apply to the Dental Council of India (DCI), and will be able to exercise their profession as licensed dentists.

Admission to the BDS program in Telangana is purely dependent on the score in the NEET-UG exam, which is administered by the National Testing Agency (NTA). There are specific eligibility requirements regarding academic qualifications, subjects of study, and minimum marks that candidates must fulfill. The Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS) handles the counseling and seat allotment for BDS seats in both government and private medical colleges within the state, including Osmania Medical College, Hyderabad. With 85% of the seats reserved for Telangana domicile candidates and 15% under the All India Quota, securing a good NEET score is essential for admission.
