CLAT vs SLAT 2026: CLAT and SLAT are the two most popular law entrance exams in India. The significant difference lies in their conducting bodies, colleges covered and their exam pattern. The exam pattern of the CLAT examination is to check the comprehension and reasoning skills, whereas SLAT checks abilities and personal strengths and weaknesses during its personal interview. The Consortium of National Law Universities conducts the CLAT exam, and the SLAT exam is undertaken by Symbiosis International (Deemed University), Pune. Both of these exams are conducted online.

 

CLAT is an online examination which provides admission to the most prestigious National Law Schools of India, and they are government-funded. There are a total of 24 National Law Colleges which accept the CLAT exam.

CLAT vs SLAT: One Goal, Two Gateways

CLAT is a nationalized entrance exam conducted by the Consortium of National Law Universities of India. It serves as the pathway for admission to undergraduate (BA LLB) and postgraduate (LLM) law programs offered by 24 NLUs.

 

SLAT is a university-level entrance exam conducted by Symbiosis International Deemed University for admission into its undergraduate law programs, BA LLB (Hons.) and BBA LLB (Hons.). The exam provides entry into the four Symbiosis Law Schools located in Pune, Noida, Hyderabad, and Nagpur.

 

While navigating through various law exams, candidates need to determine whether they wish to pursue a university or a national-level college education. Symbiosis, being a private college, provides autonomy to its curriculum and industry tie-ups, whereas National Law Colleges offer a better brand name and a higher placement percentage.

CLAT UG vs SLAT 2026: What to Expect in Exam Pattern?

CLAT has 120 questions, and SLAT has 60 questions, respectively, for its undergraduate law course. There are a total of five sections in both the law entrance exams. For the CLAT UG Exam Pattern, there is negative marking, but for the SLAT Exam Pattern, there is no negative marking. With the help of this information, a candidate can decide if they want to risk a wrong answer or not.
