What is CLAT Exam?

CLAT exam, or Common Law Admission Test, is a national-level entrance test in India for students who want to study law. It is used to get admission into top law colleges called National Law Universities (NLUs) and other private law colleges. There are two types of courses in CLAT exam.

  • 5-year integrated undergraduate law courses (after 12th grade)

CLAT 2025 Preparation Tips

Students who are preparing for CLAT 2025 exam can follow the tips to prepare for CLAT 2025 exam.

  • Candidates should start by understanding the latest CLAT exam pattern and syllabus. Knowing the structure of the exam, including the number of sections, types of questions, and the weightage given to each section, helps candidates plan their study time and focus on important areas. This foundational knowledge is essential for creating a targeted study plan.
  • Candidates need to make a well-structured study plan. A good timetable helps candidates cover all topics, manage their time, and reduce last-minute stress. Candidates should set daily and weekly goals, divide time among all sections, and give extra attention to weaker areas or topics with more weight in the exam.
  • Candidates must choose the right study material. Using recommended CLAT preparation books, previous years’ question papers, and online resources is important. Candidates should also take regular mock tests to check their preparation, improve speed, and get used to the exam format.
  • Candidates should practice and revise regularly. Solving old question papers helps candidates understand the exam pattern and question types. Regular revision ensures that important topics are remembered on exam day.
  • Candidates must focus on current affairs and general knowledge. Reading newspapers and magazines daily and making notes on important news, government schemes, sports, and legal events will help in this section. Candidates should revise major events and judgments before the exam.
  • Candidates are advised to manage their time well. Practising questions with a timer helps candidates learn how to skip tough queries and return to them later. Focusing on accuracy is important to avoid negative marking.
  • Candidates should track their progress by reviewing performance in mock tests and practice sessions. If candidates find certain sections difficult, they should adjust their study plan and spend more time on those areas.
  • Candidates must balance study with breaks and self-care. Regular breaks, eating well, and getting enough sleep help candidates stay healthy and focused. Maintaining a positive attitude is also important for success.

CLAT 2025 FAQs

What is the eligibility for CLAT 2025 UG?

Candidates applying for CLAT 2025 UG must have passed their 10+2 or equivalent exam from a recognised board. General category candidates need at least 45% marks, while SC/ST candidates need 40%. There is no age limit for appearing in CLAT UG. Candidates awaiting their 12th results can also apply.

How many questions are asked in each section of CLAT 2025?

Candidates should know that the English Language section has 22-26 questions, Current Affairs (including General Knowledge) has 28-32, Legal Reasoning has 28-32, Logical Reasoning has 22-26, and Quantitative Techniques has 10-14 questions. Each section has a different weight in the overall score.

Is there negative marking in CLAT 2025?

Candidates must remember that for every correct answer, they get 1 mark, and for every wrong answer, 0.25 marks are deducted. There is no penalty for unanswered questions. Negative marking means candidates should answer carefully and avoid guessing if unsure, as too many wrong answers can lower their total score significantly.

What is covered in the Current Affairs and General Knowledge section?

Candidates should prepare for questions on recent news, politics, history, geography, sports, science, arts, and important events. Passages are based on news articles and journalistic sources. Candidates do not need to memorise facts but should be able to understand and analyze information given in the passage. Regularly reading newspapers and magazines helps in this section.

What is included in the Logical Reasoning section?

Candidates will get passages followed by questions that test their ability to identify arguments, draw conclusions, spot assumptions, and analyze reasoning. This section checks how well candidates can understand and evaluate logical arguments. Regular practice with logical puzzles and reading arguments helps improve performance in this section.

How can candidates prepare for CLAT 2025?

Candidates should make a study plan, use good books, solve previous years’ papers, and take online mock tests. Reading newspapers daily, practicing reading comprehension, and revising important topics regularly are key. Candidates should also work on time management and accuracy, and review their performance after each practice test to improve.

What documents must candidates carry on exam day?

Candidates must bring their CLAT admit card and a valid photo ID (like Aadhaar, Passport, or Voter ID) to the exam centre. If the photo on the admit card is unclear, they should carry a self-attested photo. Candidates with disabilities must also bring their original disability certificate. Without these documents, entry to the exam hall will not be allowed.

Can candidates retake the CLAT exam?

Candidates can appear for CLAT as many times as they wish, as there is no limit on the number of attempts. If a candidate does not get the desired score or college, they can prepare and apply for CLAT again in the next year. Continuous practice and focused preparation can help improve scores in future attempts.
