
Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) are some of the top business schools in India. They are well-known for their quality education, good industry exposure, and excellent placement results. One of the most important factors students consider is the average salary package offered during placements.
Old IIMs like Ahmedabad, Bangalore, and Calcutta reported average packages above INR 34 LPA, with top offers reaching INR 1.45 crore. IIM Bangalore offered the best ROI (1.43x) with a fee of INR 24 lakh and an average package of INR 34.33 LPA.
New IIMs such as Trichy, Ranchi, and Rohtak offered average packages around INR 19–20.5 LPA, with strong ROI between 1.05x–1.1x. IIM Trichy topped with an INR 20.5 LPA average and INR 46.5 LPA highest package.
Baby IIMs, including Amritsar, Nagpur, and Jammu, are catching up fast. IIM Amritsar had the best average among them at INR 19.73 LPA with a 1.16x ROI. IIM Nagpur offered the highest package of INR 69.57 LPA.
Region-wise, South and West IIMs showed very high average salaries, especially in consulting, tech, and operations. Top recruiters across IIMs included McKinsey, BCG, Microsoft, Amazon, EY, and Deloitte.

IIMs Average Package
The Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) are categorised into three groups: Old IIMs, New IIMs, and Baby IIMs, based on their founding dates, rankings, and placement performance.
- Old IIMs, such as Ahmedabad, Bangalore, and Calcutta, are the most established. They typically require a CAT percentile above 98% and offer average packages of over INR 30 LPA. These institutes have a strong return on investment (ROI) and excellent industry connections.
- New IIMs, such as Trichy, Ranchi, and Rohtak, accept CAT scores between the 95th and 98th percentiles. Their average salaries are around INR 19–20 LPA, with decent ROI and growing placement records.
- Baby IIMs, such as Amritsar, Nagpur, and Jammu, are relatively new. They typically accept students with CAT scores in the 90–95 percentile range, offering average packages of INR 14–19 LPA. They are improving rapidly in placements.
Average Package for Old IIMs
Among the older IIMs, IIM Bangalore offered the best ROI of 1.43 times with an average package of INR 34.33 LPA on fees of INR 24 lakh, followed by IIM Ahmedabad with an average package of INR 34.45 LPA on fees of INR 25 lakh, with an ROI of 1.38 times. IIM Calcutta is at par with an average package of INR 34.23 LPA with a fee of INR 25 LPA, with an ROI of 1.36 times. IIM Lucknow offered an average package of INR 32.3 LPA on fees of INR 23.5 lakh, with an ROI of 1.37 times. IIM Kozhikode offered an average salary of INR 28.05 LPA on fees of INR 22.5 lakh, with an ROI of 1.25 times. IIM Indore offered an average package of INR 25.68 LPA on fees of INR 22 lakh, with an ROI of 1.17 times. IIM Bangalore has a strong placement record and a good return on investment.
Average Package for New IIMs
Among the new IIMs, IIM Trichy has the best average package of INR 19.43 LPA with a fee of INR 18.5 lakh, resulting in a good ROI of 1.05 times. IIM Udaipur offered an average package of INR 18.8 LPA with a fee of INR 19 lakh, resulting in an ROI of just 1. IIM Ranchi offers a good ROI of 1.1x with an average package of INR 19.29 LPA and a fee of INR 17.5 lakh. Likewise, IIM Rohtak offered an average package of INR 19.27 LPA with the same fee, resulting in an ROI of 1.1x. IIM Raipur offered an average package of INR 18.15 LPA with a fee of INR 18 lakh, resulting in an ROI of 1x. However, IIM Kashipur offers a lower average package of INR 15.04 LPA, accompanied by a fee of INR 17.3 lakh, resulting in an ROI of only 0.87x. Overall, IIM Ranchi and IIM Rohtak are the best value among the new IIMs due to their high ROI.

IIM Amritsar, one of the Baby IIMs, offers the highest package of INR 19.73 LPA, accompanied by a fee of INR 17 lakh, resulting in the highest ROI of 1.16 times. IIM Nagpur has an average package of INR 16.74 LPA with a fee of INR 18 lakh, with an ROI of 0.93 Times. IIM Sambalpur has an average package of INR 15.65 LPA with a fee of INR 16 lakh, giving an ROI of 0.97 times. IIM Jammu has an average package of INR 15.48 LPA with a fee of INR 17.15 lakh, having an ROI of 0.9 times. IIM Sirmaur has an average package of INR 14.45 LPA with a fee of INR 16 lakh, and an ROI of 0.9 times. IIM Visakhapatnam has an average package of INR 15.47 LPA with a fee of INR 17 lakh, giving an ROI of 0.91 times. IIM Bodh Gaya had an average package of INR 13.9 LPA with a fee of INR 15 lakh, resulting in a Return on Investment (ROI) of 0.93 times. IIM Amritsar is the best overall, both in terms of salary and ROI, among the Baby IIMs.
IIMs Region-wise Salary & Recruiter Insights
In the North zone, IIMs such as Lucknow, Rohtak, and Jammu are reporting good job placements, primarily in the consulting and BFSI sectors, with average salary rates for graduates being high. In the South zone, with IIM Bangalore, Trichy, and Vizag, IT, Operations, and Consulting placements are led by these schools, with salaries being very high in most cases. In the East zone, with IIM Calcutta, Bodh Gaya, and Shillong, placements are primarily in Analytics and Technology, offering average salaries compared to other zones. The West zone, with IIM Ahmedabad, Udaipur, and Nagpur, is good in Consulting and Marketing placements, with very high salary trends for graduates of these schools.
IIM Placements Summary
Among the old IIMs, IIM Ahmedabad offered the highest package of INR 1.45 crore with an average package of INR 34.36 LPA. Top recruiters were McKinsey, BCG, HSBC, and Emaar. Similarly, IIM Bangalore had the highest package of INR 85 LPA and an average of INR 35.9 LPA, with top recruiters being BCG, Bain, Microsoft, and Amazon.
For the new IIMs, the highest package at IIM Trichy was INR 46.5 LPA, and the average package was INR 20.5 LPA. The top recruiters were BNY Mellon, ICICI, and Aditya Birla. The highest package at IIM Udaipur was INR 36 LPA, and the average package was INR 20.1 LPA. Recruiters such as Accenture and ICICI Analytics hire from this school.
Among the baby IIMs, IIM Jammu had the highest package of INR 64 LPA and an average package of INR 16.43 LPA. Top companies were Yes Bank, TCS, and EY. On the other hand, IIM Bodh Gaya had the highest package of INR 48.58 LPA and an average package of INR 16 LPA. HCL, Wipro, and ICICI were the top recruiters.
