National Law Universities (NLUs) in India conduct structured campus placements every year, typically in April–May. Managed by each university’s Recruitment Office or Committee, these placements allow students to secure positions in top law firms, corporate organisations, government bodies, and public sector undertakings (PSUs). They are particularly important forCLAT aspirants and graduates, as they reflect the professional outcomes of the rigorous legal education received.

The placement process involves multiple stages: pre-placement talks, pre-interview screenings, CV submissions, interviews, and final offer acceptance. Students are advised to perform well in their semester exams and internships to strengthen their profiles. NLU placements include Zero-Day Placements during the 4th year LLB program, often resulting in pre-placement offers (PPOs), and Prior Year Placements for students who were not placed earlier.

Graduates can explore diverse careers in litigation, corporate law, public sector, international law firms, consulting, legal advisory, or research. With average salary packages ranging from INR 5–18 LPA, NLU placements provide practical experience, professional growth and strong industry exposure, helping CLAT-qualified students launch successful careers in law.

NLU Placement Process

The placement process at National Law Universities is designed to help students connect with top recruiters and secure suitable job opportunities. It is structured in multiple stages to ensure that candidates are well-prepared and matched with roles that suit their skills and career goals.

  • Pre-Placement Talks: Students attend sessions organized by recruiters to understand the profiles of hiring organisations, potential career paths, job responsibilities, and compensation packages.
  • Pre-Interview Screening Process: Interested candidates participate in pre-interview activities such as group discussions or aptitude assessments. Recruiters assess students based on their performance and shortlist the most suitable candidates.
  • Curriculum Vitae Submission: Students’ CVs are forwarded to recruiters for further evaluation, providing recruiters with detailed information about academic performance, skills, and extracurricular achievements.
  • Placement Offers: Shortlisted candidates are called for interviews conducted by the recruiters. After evaluation, placement offers are extended to the selected students.
  • Acceptance and Joining Formalities: Candidates can accept or decline the offers based on their preferences. Once accepted, the HR team from the recruiting firm contacts the candidate to complete all joining formalities and onboarding procedures.
