The first academic year of DY Patil College of Engineering and Technology began in Kolhapur in 1984–85. Kolhapur's Shivaji University is associated with DYPCET. With a yearly intake of 240 students, DYPCET provides BE degrees in six fields. The university creates a merit list of all qualified applicants with valid JEE Main/MHT-CET scores in order to admit them to B.E. programs.
