IIT Madras has 20 hostels, each named after great rivers of India. Among them, 5 hostels are for female students and 15 hostels are for male students. Each hostel has common facilities such as dining messes, recreational spaces and study areas.

 

IIT Madras Hostel Fees vary from INR 14,000 to INR 20,000 per semester, including all the establishment charges, utility charges, and other charges.

The IIT Madras hostel fee structure includes a Vacation Category for BTech, BS, Dual Degree, MA, MSc, and MBA students. Mandatory charges cover admission, establishment, utilities, water, and waste services, with higher utility fees for recent batches. New admissions pay a refundable deposit. Optional fees are charged separately for institute events such as Saarang, Shaastra, and E-Summit.

IIT Madras Boys Hostels

IIT Madras has 15 boys hostels on its residential campus, named after Indian rivers. Some of the IIT Madras Boys hostels include Alakananda, Brahmaputra, Cauvery, Godavari, Krishna, Mahanadhi, Sabarmati and Sindhu.

 

All hostels provide basic room facilities, compulsory mess services, and are managed by the Office of Hostel Management (CCW).

IIT Madras Girls Hostels

IIT Madras has 5 women’s hostels named Sarayu, Sharavathi, Tunga, Alakananda, and Kaveri. These hostels accommodate female students from undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD programmes.

 

All women’s hostels are located within the residential campus and are managed by the Office of Hostel Management (CCW), following official institute rules for allotment, mess, facilities, and residence.
