National Law School of India University Bangalore is one of India’s leading law universities offering UG, PG and PhD programs. At the undergraduate level, it offers the flagship B.A. LL.B (Hons.) and a 3 year B.A. (Hons.). Postgraduate programs include LL.B (Hons.), LL.M, and Master’s in Public Policy (MPP). Doctoral studies are available in Law and Public Policy and Social Sciences.

 

For admissions, NLSIU Bangalore follows a fully online application process. CLAT applicants are required to register on the official CLAT Consortium portal. The applications applying for non CLAT programs need register for NLSAT.

NLSIU Bangalore UG Admissions 2025

NLSIU Bangalore offers two highly competitive undergraduate programmes. The seat intake of BA LLB at NLSIU is 310, with reservation for SC/ST/OBC categories, EWS, Karnataka candidates. Intake for BA (Hons.) at NLSIU is 60, with reservation for SC/ST/EWS/OBC category.

NLSIU Bangalore PG Admissions 2025

NLSIU Bangalore offers 3 postgraduate programmes in LL.B. (Hons.), LL.M. and the MPP programme, each with entrance test-based admissions. The seat intake for the PG course at NLSIU Bangalore is 120 for each program. There is reservation for reserved category, women and Karnataka students.

NLSIU Bangalore PhD Admissions 2025

The National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bangalore offers two Ph.D. programs. A Ph.D. in Law and Ph.D. in Social Sciences, Humanities & Public Policy. Each course has 4 seats, making a total intake of 8 students. Admission to NLSIU Ph.D. programs is based on NLSAT-PhD scores and strict academic eligibility.

  • MBL degree from NLSIU with a minimum CGPA of 4.00 and a bachelor’s degree through regular mode.

  • A valid NLSAT-PhD score is also required.

PhD in Social Sciences, Humanities & Public Policy

3 years

  • 4 year bachelor’s degree with at least 55% marks (50% for SC/ST/OBC-NCL/PwD) or

  • A master’s degree with at least 55% marks + a bachelor’s degree or

  • Associate Company Secretary (ACS) qualification + a bachelor’s degree or

  • Chartered Accountant (CA) qualification + a regular bachelor’s degree.

  • A valid NLSAT-PhD score is also required.

NLSIU Bangalore Application Process 2025

The application process for National Law School of India University is conducted online. Admissions to all the courses are conducted through national-level entrance exams. The 5 year BA LL.B and 1 year LL.M courses admit students via CLAT. The 3 year LL.B, MPP and Ph.D. programmes require candidates to appear for NLSIU’s own entrance tests (NLSAT). All applications must be submitted online through either the CLAT Consortium portal or NLSIU’s official admission website, depending on the course.

 

How to Apply to NLSIU Bangalore?

For BA LL.B (Hons.) and LL.M

  • Visit the CLAT Consortium website and register.
  • Fill out the application form and select NLSIU Bangalore as your preference.
  • Upload documents and pay the application fee.
  • Appear for CLAT 2026.
  • The candidate must participate in CLAT counselling and select NLSIU in preference list.
  • Once you are allotted the college, complete admission formalities on the university portal.

For 3 Year LL.B (Hons.), MPP and Ph.D.

  • Visit the official NLSIU website.
  • Register with your email ID and create a login.
  • Select the course which you want to pursue (LLB, MPP, or PhD).
  • Fill in personal, academic, and category details.
  • Upload documents and pay the application fee (INR 2,500 for General/EWS, INR 2,000 for SC/ST/OBC-NCL/PwD). The PhD application fee is INR 3,000.
  • Choose your preferred test centre.
  • Appear for the NLSAT exam.
  • If shortlisted then the candidate must proceed with counselling, document verification and fee payment.

NLSIU Bangalore Frequently Asked Questions 2025

Can I join NLSIU Bangalore without CLAT?

Only for non-CLAT programmes. NLSIU Bangalore requires CLAT UG for BA LL.B and CLAT-PG for LL.M. However, for the 3-year LL.B (Hons.), MPP, and Ph.D., admission is through NLSAT, NLSIU’s own entrance test.

What are the fees of BA LL.B in NLSIU Bangalore?
