Tamil Nadu National Law University (TNNLU) is one of the top law universities located in Tiruchirappalli. The university offers integrated BA LLB (Hons), B.Com LLB (Hons), LLM and PhD courses. Admissions to the undergraduate and postgraduate programs at TNNLU are based entirely on the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) conducted by the Consortium of NLUs. Whereas, PhD candidates can apply via the TNNLU portal. UG and PG law aspirants must apply and appear for CLAT 2026, based on which counselling, seat allotment, and final admissions will take place. To be eligible for admission via CLAT, candidates must have passed or appeared in the 10+2 exams. General/OBC category candidates should have obtained at least 45% marks (40% for SC/ST). The application fee for CLAT is INR 4,000 (for General/OBC category) and INR 3,500 (for SC/ST/BPL category). The Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) has released the CLAT Notification 2026. The CLAT 2026 registration process begins on 1 August 2025, and the last date to apply is 31 October 2025. The exam will be conducted on 7 December 2025.

TNNLU UG Admission 2025

Tamil Nadu National Law University offers 2 full-time integrated undergraduate law programs: BA LL.B. (Hons) and B.Com LL.B. (Hons).

  • The intake of both TTNLU UG courses is 60 seats each.
  • Admission to these UG programs is based strictly on CLAT UG scores, followed by the centralised counselling process of the Consortium of NLUs.

TNNLU offers a one-year full-time postgraduate LLM program with specialisations in Corporate & Securities Law, Intellectual Property Law and Natural Resources Law.

  • The seat intake of TTNLU PG courses is 18 seats.
  • Admission is based on CLAT PG scores.

TNNLU PhD Admission 2025

TNNLU Tiruchirappalli also offers a doctoral-level PhD in Law. Admission is conducted directly by the university as per UGC norms.

TNNLU Application Process 2025

The Tamil Nadu National Law University (TNNLU), Tiruchirappalli, admits students to its BA LLB (Hons.), B.Com LLB (Hons), and LLM courses through the CLAT exam. For PhD courses, selection is based on a university-conducted entrance test followed by an interview. All admissions are governed by the rules prescribed by the Consortium of NLUs and UGC norms, wherever applicable.

  • CLAT is mandatory for admission into both the BA LLB (Hons.), BCom LLB (Hons), and LL.M programs at TNNLU Tiruchirappalli.
  • All India Merit category gets 49.5% of seats (28 seats) for students from across the country.
  • Horizontal reservation for Special Category candidates such as Persons with Disabilities (PwD), NRI/NRI Sponsored, and Foreign Nationals is applicable as per university regulations.
  • Vertical reservations are provided as per the Tamil Nadu State Government policy. Backwards Classes (BC), Most Backward Classes (MBC), Scheduled Castes (SC), and Scheduled Tribes (ST) receive reservation within the State quota.
  • The State Government (Tamil Nadu Domicile) category gets 50.5% (29 seats), distributed among various reserved and unreserved categories as per state norms.

  1. Register on the Consortium of NLUs website and fill out the CLAT 2026 online application form with your personal, academic and other details asked for.
  2. For PhD programs, visit the TNNLU website to fill out the university-level entrance form.
  3. Upload the required documents (given below).
  4. Submit the form before the deadline, and confirmation will be sent via SMS or email.
