About WCE

Walchand College of Engineering, Sangli, is a government-aided autonomous institute established in 1947 and affiliated with Shivaji University, Kolhapur. It is approved by AICTE, New Delhi, and accredited by the NBA and NAAC. The college is located at Vishrambag, Sangli, midway between Sangli and Miraj cities, spread over roughly 90 acres along the Sangli–Miraj road.

Originally founded as New Engineering College, it was renamed in 1955 under the support of the Seth Walchand Hirachand Memorial Trust and the Government of Maharashtra. Over the decades, the college has expanded its offerings from a single B.E. (Civil) course to a wide range of undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes in engineering. It became autonomous in 2007, the first private engineering institution in the region to attain this status, and its autonomous status has since been periodically renewed, with the current extension valid through 2026–27.

The college offers B.Tech and M.Tech programmes aligned with modern industry standards, developed in consultation with IIT and US academic experts. Walchand College of Engineering was also a top performer under the World Bank-funded TEQIP scheme, ranking 2nd among 127 institutions during Phase I and continuing strong performance in Phase II.
