DY Patil University is permanently affiliated with the Savitribai Phule Pune University. I t is approved by AICTE New Delhi and DTE Maharashtra.

Dr Gnanandyo Yashwantrao Patil (born 22 October 1935), is a Padma Shri recipient. Moreover, he is a former Governor of the Indian states of Bihar, Tripura, and West Bengal. Dr Gnanandyo Yashwantrao Patil is the founder of the DY Patil Group. DY Patil University falls under the umbrella of DY Patil Group.

Applicants and enrolled students get reservation benefits and the time of admission. Reserved categories such as Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, Other Backward Classes, PwD students get reservations in admission. Such students can benefit from reservation policies made by the government of India. Meaning, the reserved categories can get relaxation up to 5% in the eligibility criteria.
