NIT Calicut is a fully centrally funded, academically autonomous institute of national importance governed by the NIT Act 2007. Hierarchically, the president of India is the Visitor to the Institute under the Act.
The institute follows the latest trends in the globally accepted outcome-based education framework for all academic programs. All prorams and courses have been designed to provide a balanced theory and practices of the respective fields or disciplines. Currently, institute if offeriung 11 undergraduate and 31 postgraduate programs. In addition, four year Integrated Teacher Education Program (ITEP), a dual major undergraduate degree B.Sc. B.Ed. is going to be offered from the Academic Year 2023-2024 with majors in three different disciplines namely Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Besides these, all departments have their research programmes leading to PhD. Degrees.
The admission for undergraduate of NITC are admitted based on JEE (Main) rank. NITC turns out to be a top destination for the higher rank holders of JEE (Main). Students are also admitted through DASA, SII (Foreign Natinoals and NRI studentss), MEA, and ICCE scholarship scheme. The postgraduate students are admitted through centralised counselling by CCMT to M.Tech program on the basis of GATE score and by CCMN to MSc program based on the JAM Score. Admission to MBA Program is on the basis of CAT score.

The highest offer made this year is Rs. 47 Lakhs Per Annum and the average offer for Computer Science and Engineering students has increased to Rs. 22.03 Lakhs from Rs. 20.54 Lakhs last year. Average offer to ECE students has seen an increase to Rs. 19.29 Lakhs from Rs. 15.34 Lakhs at the same time last year. The overall average this year has risen to Rs. 14.29 Lakhs from Rs. 12.91 Lakhs at the same time last year.
