A B.Arch is a five-year Architecture degree offered to students, aiming to make them eligible to be professionals after infusing them with professional training to better enable them to handle architecture and associated professions. It is a ten-semester course that incorporates a combination of theoretical background, technical expertise, and imaginative design.

 

Tamil Nadu has a centralized process of admission to B.Arch that allows all aspiring architects a transparent procedure of admission based on their merit. To enroll in this course, the candidates should have passed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, or should have acquired a 10+3 Diploma in Mathematics, and should have obtained a minimum of 50 percent.

 

In addition to this, the candidates also need to appear and qualify for the entrance exams as NATA, TNEA, or JEE Main. The candidates can be admitted to both government colleges and private colleges. The colleges for the BArch course in Tamil Nadu are NIT Trichy, VIT Vellore, Anna University, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, etc.

BArch Admissions Tamil Nadu Eligibility Criteria

If the candidates want to enroll in the BArch course in the Architecture colleges in Tamil Nadu, the candidates need to follow the eligibility requirements of the distinct colleges. The BArch eligibility criteria that the candidates need to fulfill are:

  • The candidates should have cleared the 10+2 or an equivalent examination from a recognized board with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects with 50 percent aggregate marks.
  • Candidates belonging to reserved categories, economically weaker sections, and persons with disabilities will be given a relaxation of 5 percent.
  • The candidates should have completed a 10+3 Diploma in mathematics.
  • Along with fulfilling the eligibility criteria, the candidates are required to pass the entrance examinations, such as NATA or JEE Main Paper 2 (B.Arch).

There isn’t any state-level entrance exam for the BArch course. The candidates can only participate in the counseling process, TNEA, to take admission in the reputed colleges of Tamil Nadu.

Tamil Nadu BArch Admission Process

The candidates are required to follow a simple Tamil Nadu BArch admission process to enroll in their desired college. The Tamil Nadu BArch admission process at NIT, Trichy is given below:

 

Step 1: The candidates need to check and fulfill the BArch eligibility criteria before moving to the admission process.

 

Step 2: After fulfilling the eligibility criteria, the candidates need to visit the official website of the JEE Main to register themselves for the JEE Main entrance exam.

 

Step 3: The candidates need to fill in the required details in the application form and pay the application fee.

 

Step 4: The candidates need to appear for the JEE Main Paper 2 entrance examination.

 

Step 5: Once the results are declared, the candidates can check their results and download their scorecards for further processing.

 

Step 6: The candidates, if they got enough marks, need to register for the JoSAA counseling process by registering themselves on the official portal.

 

Step 7: The candidates need to update their preferences for the choice of the colleges they want to be admitted into.

Is NATA mandatory to take admissions in B.Arch in Tamil Nadu?

Yes, qualifying for NATA is mandatory for all candidates trying to get admission to B.Arch in Tamil Nadu. The NATA score has been adopted in creating merit and seat allocation during counseling. NATA is also one of the eligibility requirements in most colleges associated with Anna University and is part of TNEA counseling, though some colleges may also accept JEE Main Paper 2 (B.Arch) results.

Can I also apply for the BArch course in Tamil Nadu if I am from a different state?

Of course, candidates of other states are also eligible to apply for the B.Arch course in Tamil Nadu, as it is open to all. They can be however taken under the Other state category. Quota and seat reservations under these categories may not be easily found in government colleges.
