Goa offers admission to B.Arch in the primary way through Goa College of Architecture (GCA), the state's one and only approved institution to offer this degree. Admission is very competitive in nature and is offered based on the marks secured by the candidate in the National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) and their 10+2 or equivalent exam score. The college has limited admission of around 40 seats annually, with a few for out-of-state applicants. The program is structured in such a manner that only those students who have a good mathematical aptitude and background for architecture are selected.

GCA's B.Arch is a five-year program and is committed to marrying classical architectural education with modern concepts of design with the cultural and environmental context of Goa in mind. The course is designed to provide students with a wide vision of architectural concepts, hands-on training, and green design methodology. Students are also engaged in various projects, site visits, and workshops that expose them to professional challenges in urban planning and architecture. The program aims at fostering technical skills and creativity and equipping graduates to contribute positively to the local and international architectural industries.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can out-of-state students apply to GCA, and how competitive is the school for them?

Yes, a non-Goa student can apply under "All India Quota" or "Management Quota" as per the published seat matrix of the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), Goa. But non-Goa students have fewer seats and thus the competition is intense. These students must possess valid scores in NATA and all the eligibility conditions like minimum marks in academics.

Is GCA accepting on JEE Paper 2 (Architecture) score?

No, GCA does not accept on the basis of scores of JEE Main Paper 2. There is only one admissible entrance test for admission to B.Arch in Goa College of Architecture that is Council of Architecture's NATA. Students who do not have valid NATA score are not eligible irrespective of other academic achievements.

Is there an interview or filing of a portfolio during the admission process at GCA?

No, there are no portfolio presentations or individual interviews for undergraduate admission in GCA. It is strictly on merit basis of the qualifying exam and NATA scores following the DTE Goa drawn merit list. However, students are suggested to hold a portfolio over the course, mainly for internships and professional career purposes.

Why is domicile status important in seat allotment in GCA?

Domicile status plays a role in seat allotment. Seats are typically reserved for domiciled candidates of Goa under broad categories such as General, SC/ST/OBC, or special reservations. Non-local candidates will have to compete it out under fewer seats, typically under All India or Management Quota, where cut-offs based on merit are higher since more students are vying for them.
