Shradha Das

B.Sc in Fashion and Apparel Design is a 3-year degree course which deals exclusively with the study and the business concerns of fashion. It fuses creative design, textiles, garment construction, fashion marketing and other attributes of fashion. The students get the basic skills and hands-on experience to enable them to build careers in the world of fashion and apparel.

Interestingly enough, this course has even found some takers among students planning for engineering, especially those with a strong inclination toward design, innovations, and materials science. This discipline is also unique in that it caters to professionally trained individuals with a very exacting, procedural, step-by-step system which is quite unlike anything else offered within engineering.

Normally, eligibility for this program requires having done a 10 + 2 from a recognized board, without regard to their stream. A few institutes may have their own entrance exams or interviews to test the design and interest capabilities of the students in the fashion and apparel world.

Post pursuing a B.Sc in Fashion and Apparel Design, career opportunities are numerous and developing. Some of the more traditional ones include: Fashion Designer, Apparel Merchandiser, Textile Designer, Fashion Stylist, Quality Control/QA Executive, Production Manager, Pattern, Maker/CAD Designer, Fashion Illustrator, Retail Buyer/Planner, and with the boom in the internet and online shopping and the delightfully new clothing models geared towards eco-sustainability, fresh ideas are always welcomed both in business and creativity.
