Most BTech aspirants apply to more than one entrance exam, and the four that students most often combine are JEE Main, MET, VITEEE and SRMJEEE. All four are open for the 2027 admission cycle. JEE Main Session 1 has the earliest deadline, 22 November 2026, followed by Session 2 on 3 February 2027. Applications for VITEEE close on 31 March 2027, SRMJEEE Phase 1 on 2 April 2027, and MET Phase 1 in March 2027.
The exams also differ in who can apply. JEE Main has no age limit but accepts only candidates who passed Class 12 in 2025 or 2026 or are appearing in 2027. VITEEE requires 60% in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, with at least 50% in Mathematics, and SRMJEEE requires 60% in Physics, Mathematics and one more subject, along with a minimum age of 16 years and 6 months. This guide compares the application windows, exam dates, eligibility and fees of all four exams so that students can plan their applications without missing a deadline.

JEE Main vs MET vs VITEEE vs SRMJEEE: Overview
The four exams serve different sets of institutions. JEE Main, conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), is the national exam for admission to NITs, IIITs and other centrally funded technical institutes, and it is also the qualifying exam for JEE Advanced. MET, VITEEE and SRMJEEE are conducted by private universities for admission to their own BTech programmes: MET by the Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), VITEEE by Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT), and SRMJEEE by SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST). Each is a computer-based test, and each is held in more than one session or phase.

Application Dates Comparison
The application windows overlap, but the deadlines are spread across four months. JEE Main closes first, with Session 1 registration ending on 22 November 2026 and a late-fee window running until 26 November. Session 2 registration opens on 5 January and closes on 3 February 2027. The three private university exams keep their forms open much longer: MET Phase 1 until March 2027, VITEEE until 31 March 2027 and SRMJEEE Phase 1 until 2 April 2027. A student planning to take all four should complete the JEE Main Session 1 form first.

Eligibility Comparison
The four exams share a basic requirement, Class 12 with Physics and Mathematics, but differ on age, year of passing and minimum marks. JEE Main has no age limit and sets no minimum marks to appear; its year-of-passing rule limits eligibility to Class 12 candidates of 2025, 2026 and 2027. For admission to NITs, IIITs and GFTIs through JoSAA, however, candidates need 75% in Class 12 (65% for SC/ST) or a place in the top 20 percentile of their board. VITEEE, which also has no age limit, sets a 60% aggregate in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics with at least 50% in Mathematics, or 60% in Physics, Chemistry and Biology with at least 50% in Biology for the biology route. The aggregate is relaxed to 50% for SC/ST candidates and candidates from Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and the North-Eastern states. SRMJEEE, for SRMIST's own campuses, requires a 60% aggregate in Physics, Mathematics and one of Chemistry, Biotechnology, Biology, Computer Science, Information Technology, Informatics Practices, Engineering Graphics or Botany and Zoology, and candidates must be at least 16 years and 6 months old on 31 July of the year of their Class 12 board exam. SRM University-AP and SRM University Delhi-NCR, Sonepat, publish their own eligibility rules.

Year of passing and number of attempts
The year-of-passing rule matters most for students who have taken a gap year. Under JEE Main's rule, a candidate who passed Class 12 in 2025 can still appear in 2027, but this is the last year of eligibility; one who passed in 2026 has one more year after 2027. Candidates who passed Class 12 in 2024 or earlier cannot appear in JEE Main 2027. VITEEE follows the same three-year window of 2025, 2026 and 2027, and also requires the qualifying examination to be passed from a single board in a single academic year, through regular, full-time study with English as a subject.
| Passed Class 12 in | JEE Main 2027 | VITEEE 2027 |
| 2024 or earlier | Not eligible | Not eligible |
| 2025 | Eligible (final year) | Eligible |
| 2026 | Eligible | Eligible |
| Appearing in 2027 | Eligible | Eligible |
SRMJEEE subject rules for specific programmes
SRMIST allows some flexibility in subjects, with conditions. Students admitted to Biotechnology, Genetic Engineering or Biomedical Engineering programmes without Mathematics in Class 12 must take an additional four-credit Mathematics course in the first year, and students who did not study Chemistry at the +2 level take a bridge course in Chemistry in the first year. Students who completed Class 12 through NIOS must have completed Class 10 through regular schooling, or the other way round.
Application Fee Comparison
Fees for the three private university exams are fixed amounts, while JEE Main fees depend on category, gender and the papers chosen. For JEE Main Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech) at centres in India, a General male candidate pays ₹1,000 per session, a General female candidate ₹800 and an SC, ST, PwD or third gender candidate ₹500. VITEEE charges ₹1,450 and MET ₹2,000 (an ₹800 application fee and a ₹1,200 entrance test fee, both non-refundable). A single MET application covers B.Tech admission at MIT Manipal, MIT Bengaluru, SMIT Sikkim, Manipal University Jaipur and MAHE Dubai. SRMJEEE charged ₹1,400 per phase in 2026; its 2027 fee will be confirmed on the application portal. On these figures, a General male candidate applying for both JEE Main sessions and all three private exams would pay about ₹6,850 in application fees.
| Exam | Application fee (centres in India) |
| JEE Main 2027, Paper 1 only (per session) | General male ₹1,000; General female ₹800; Gen-EWS/OBC-NCL male ₹900, female ₹800; SC/ST/PwD/PwBD/third gender ₹500 |
| JEE Main 2027, late fee | ₹500 extra, uniform for all categories |
| MET 2027 | ₹2,000 (₹800 application fee + ₹1,200 entrance test fee), non-refundable; Foreign USD 30; NRI, NRI Sponsored and OCI Foreign ₹2,500 |
| VITEEE 2027 | ₹1,450 (NRI applicants: USD 90); counselling fee ₹5,900 after results |
| SRMJEEE | ₹1,400 per phase in 2026; 2027 fee to be confirmed |
Which Exam Should You Take?
The four exams lead to different institutions, so the choice depends on where a student wants to study rather than on which exam is easier. JEE Main is essential for anyone aiming at NITs, IIITs, GFTIs or, through JEE Advanced, the IITs, and its two sessions give two chances with the better score counted. MET, VITEEE and SRMJEEE are the main routes into BTech at MAHE, VIT and SRMIST respectively. VIT admits Indian BTech students only through VITEEE, while MAHE and SRMIST may announce additional admission categories of their own. Because their deadlines and exam dates do not overlap with JEE Main, many students take all four.
| If you are aiming for… | Exam to take |
| NITs, IIITs and GFTIs | JEE Main |
| IITs | JEE Main (to qualify for JEE Advanced) |
| MIT Manipal, MIT Bengaluru, SMIT Sikkim, Manipal University Jaipur or MAHE Dubai | MET (one common B.Tech application) |
| VIT campuses | VITEEE |
| SRMIST campuses | SRMJEEE |
| More than one of these | All relevant exams; deadlines run from November 2026 to April 2027 |
