IIT JAM 2026 Tie-Breaking Criteria
The IIT JAM 2026 tie-breaking policy for candidates securing the same total score in a Test Paper will be determined in the following order:
- The candidate with lower negative marks will be given priority.
- Secondly, the NAT scores will be taken into account.
- Thirdly, the MSQ marks will be considered.
- Fourthly, the scores in the two-mark questions will be compared.
- Lastly, the scores in the two-mark NAT will be used.
If the tie remains, the date of birth will be used as a criterion, and the older candidate will be given a higher rank.
- Lower negative marks
- NAT marks - Numerical Answer Type questions
- MSQ marks - Multiple Select Questions
- Score in 2-mark questions
- Score in 2 marks NAT
If the tie continues after the above criteria, Date of Birth (DOB) will be taken into consideration, and the older candidate will get a better rank.
IIT JAM 2026 Merit List
An All India Merit List will be prepared for every Test Paper based on All India Rank (AIR). The placement of candidates in this Merit List will depend upon the combined number of seats per category (GEN/ OBC-NCL/ EWS/ SC/ ST/ PwD) available for a given subject. Qualified Candidates thus identified will be entitled to apply for admission to the concerned academic courses.
- The All India Merit List will be prepared for each Test Paper based on AIR.
- The number of candidates selected for the Merit List shall depend upon the number of seats available in each category GEN/ OBC-NCL/ EWS/ SC/ ST/ PwD under that particular subject.
- All such candidates will be deemed Qualified Candidates who may seek admission in the said programs.
IIT JAM 2026 Scorecard
The JAM 2026 Scorecard includes the All India Rank (AIR) and the score obtained by the candidate. Shortlisted candidates will be able to download their JAM Scorecard 2026 from the official website. Check out the steps below to download the scorecard of IIT JAM 2026.
