• Updated on 2 Nov, 2025 by Tannu

University of Calcutta provides undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral, diploma, and certificate programs in a variety of subjects, including science, engineering, commerce, law, management, and the arts. University of Calcutta accepts applicants in two types: Part "A" for university candidates and Part "B" for non-CU candidates. 20% of seats are available to non-CU applicants, whereas 80% of seats are offered to CU candidates (Part "A"). The university administers an entrance exam (Part "B") to non-CU applicants for 20% of seats in PG programs.

Scores on the qualifying exam determine admission to undergraduate programs, including BA, B.Sc., and B.Com. Postgraduate admissions to the University of Calcutta, including MA, M.Sc., M.Com., B.Ed., and LLM are determined by entrance exams (for Part "B" students) or qualifying exam scores (for Part "A" candidates), which are followed by in-person interviews. The results of national-level tests like WBJEE/JEE Main, CAT/MAT/XMAT/JEMAT, WB-JECA, and GATE are used to determine admission to B.Tech, MBA, MCA, and M.Tech programs, respectively.

All Part "A" and Part "B" candidates are ultimately chosen by the institution through a counselling process. Seats are distributed according to the results of the qualifying exam and interview (for the relevant programs) or the entrance exam. Scores on admission or qualifying exams will account for 70% of the selection process, while department-specific interviews will account for 30%.
